Do You Trust Your Poker Reads?

Sometimes you get a strong feeling that an opponent is bluffing, but it's difficult to know whether to trust your read.

Do you usually rely on your instincts at the table, or do you prefer to make decisions based mainly on betting patterns, statistics and previous hands?

Have you ever made a big call based purely on a read that turned out to be correct?

The reads I trust are the ones I can point to afterwards. A bet size that doesn't fit the story, a line that stopped making sense on the turn. That's still betting patterns really, just noticed live instead of in a stat. A pure gut feeling with nothing behind it is usually me wanting the read to be right. I only let those break ties.

I try to use both. Betting patterns and previous hands usually give me a starting point, but sometimes you get the feeling in your gut that something is off. I've gotten a big call purely on a sense in my gut before and been right about it, but I've also talked myself into someone bluffing and been wrong. That's where the danger comes in with trusting your gut in poker!🤔🤔

Yes, especially live (timing tells/physical tells/table talk etc) - IMO strong poker reads is a high level poker skill... even online, tho the “reads” shift toward stats/HUD data/timing/showdown history etc... I study/work on my game to trust that I'll make mostly good or profitable decisions at the tables, so even if I'm wrong and lose some hands because of it - I still believe in the process and hopefully the good results will show both short and long-term...

No one is perfect .Everyone is striving to be better .What knowledge I acquire about piker try to implement on table I f i make any mistake I revisit that spot and reanalyze

The most reliable "reads" usually stem from betting patterns rather than physical tells anyway. When a bet sizing doesn't fit the story or a line stops making sense on later streets, that logic is what makes pulling off a big call feel justified.
