Every poker player has experienced a bad beat or a frustrating hand. The real challenge is what happens next.

After losing a big pot, it's easy to become impatient and start playing hands you normally wouldn't play. That's when one unlucky hand can turn into several bad decisions.

The best players know how to reset mentally, forget the previous hand, and focus completely on the next decision.

You can't control the cards you are dealt, but you can control how you react to them.

How do you reset your mindset after losing a big pot?

Usually I try to treat the next hand like the bad beat never happened. Easier said than done 😂

If it was a really big pot, I'll take a few minutes away from the table if I feel myself getting annoyed. Getting some water, walking around, or just sitting out a couple of hands is enough sometimes.

The biggest thing for me is reminding myself that I don't need to win those chips back immediately. That's when things can go downhill fast. The money is already gone, so chasing it usually just makes the next decision worse. As epitome what is done cant be undone so no point to think or getting dismayed about previous hand and best practice is not getting associated with result because its not in my hand

Who said you can always reset your mindset after losing a big pot? I think that sounds much easier than it actually is. When you lose a huge pot, especially after playing the hand the way you thought was right, it can be really difficult to simply forget about it and move on. You can tell yourself to stay calm, but emotions don’t always listen to you. Sometimes you keep thinking about the hand, wondering what you could have done differently, even when there was nothing you could have done. And honestly, I don’t think every player is able to completely reset mentally right away. Sometimes you need a few hands, sometimes you need to slow down, and sometimes you just need to accept that your head isn’t in the game anymore. The important thing is recognizing that. If I notice that I’m starting to play differently because I’m angry or frustrated about the previous hand, I know I need to be careful. The worst thing is trying to win those chips back immediately. Poker is not only about controlling the cards. It’s also about trying to control yourself, and that can be much harder

Ahh what would be my ideal reset button press, well i have an easy one for me. Just to take a breather and remind myself that the last hand is in the past. No more chasing down losses and revenge poker, just making the best decision for this hand. Sometimes its hard to come to grips with the fact that variance will happen. ♠️
