Completed Day 6 and agree that optimal hand selection before the flop is quite important and also depends on position. However, if you also have a read on certain players, you can sometimes play hands that are not within your range or fold hands that you would normally play.

The course is a beginner course, keep that in mind at all chapters of this course, reads is advanced material. For beginners, mastering positional awareness is a crucial concept. The course is mostly here to bring the basics into the minds of poker newbies.
Refreshing the knowledge of this course is even for advanced players like you a must from time to time.

Hello Poker fans,

So nice to do a refresher. I was able to correct a slight misconception in my UTG ranges. I was opening A9o+ and it is A9s+. There was a good reason why I always felt uncomfortable. :D

Although I would often stick to the ranges, I would usually play based on my feel for the opponents. One thing I have to do more is play aggressively versus tight players. It makes sense, since they would more than likely fold if their hands are weak. I do like to lie in wait for the loose players, but it is just ridiculous how lucky they can be!

It is really exciting to do this course again. I am picking up on things that I missed the first time around :D.

Cheers.

Unfortunately, the video was removed from YouTube. It was likely mistaken for gambling content. Judging by the comments, the lesson contained very valuable information.

Quite bizarre, lot of of other gambling videos on you tube and the other vids. Cannot imagine what the infringement is but would seem like a mistake by youtube.

I found this chapter really useful because pre-flop decisions can sometimes feel automatic, especially when you have played a lot of hands. But the lesson is a good reminder that position, effective stack size, the players involved and the ranges we are facing should all influence our decision.

I particularly liked the focus on position. The same hand can be a very different situation depending on where you are at the table and what action has already happened before you.

I also think learning to think about ranges instead of focusing on one specific hand makes pre-flop decisions much easier to understand. Instead of asking myself, “Does my opponent have a strong hand?”, I can think about what hands they are likely to have based on their position and actions.

One thing I’d like to improve is becoming faster at putting all of these factors together during an actual tournament. How long did it take experienced players to develop the ability to evaluate position, ranges and effective stacks almost automatically?

You will play every hand pre-flop and in this Guide to Pre-Flop on Day 6 you will learn how important position is in determining your action.

If you have not yet read Day 6 and watched the video for Day 6 - take a few minutes now to do that and then come back here to discuss it:

The Guide to Pre-Flop

Katie reviews all of the factors you need to consider when playing pre-flop and when you should take more risks. She even explains how to read ranges. I found this chapter to be a great refresher and reminder to myself about making good decisions pre-flop. I won my league game after reviewing Day 6. :)

Remembering to calculate the effective stack was a concept I learned from Katie 10 years ago when I first started playing live poker.

Feel free to ask Katie and Collin any questions you have about pre-flop play - and engage in discussion with other players right here in this thread.

Me parece una guía muy útil, especialmente para recordar la importancia de la posición y del stack efectivo antes de tomar decisiones pre-flop.
