Playing poker for several hours can be mentally exhausting, especially during long tournaments or extended cash game sessions.
What helps you stay focused? Do you take regular breaks, avoid distractions, or have a routine before you play? I'd love to hear what strategies other players use to maintain concentration and make good decisions throughout a long session.

Spot on! Long sessions will drain you if you don't pace yourself.
For me, stepping away from the screen completely during tournament breaks is a game-changer—even just walking around for a couple of minutes resets the brain. Keeping hydrated with plenty of water and putting the phone on Do Not Disturb also helps block out all the noise.
What about you guys? Any specific routines or snacks that keep you from tilting in the late hours?

Focus is a budget for me, not a skill. About three hours, then I am guessing.
So I set the stop time before I sit down, not when I start feeling tired. By then the decision is already bad.
My tell is when I cannot say out loud why I am in a hand. When that happens I flag it and look at it after the session, instead of chewing on it mid orbit.

For me, the biggest thing is taking short breaks before I actually feel tired. I also try to stay involved when I’m not in a hand by watching opponents and thinking about their ranges. Once I notice myself playing on autopilot, that’s usually my signal to step away.

It's extremely difficult for me to stay focused for so many hours, but what helps me the most is listening to music while I play.

Play multiple tables. This keeps me from getting loose. It keeps my mind focused and sharp.

I only play online, and I only play tournaments. I think that makes the game more relaxed for me because I don’t have to worry about winning or losing money on every hand. Once I’ve paid the buy-in, I can just focus on playing my best and enjoying the tournament. I can usually play for 4 or 5 hours without losing focus, especially when I’m enjoying the tournament and making progress. I also prefer playing on my PC because I’m more comfortable and less distracted than when I play on my phone. I don’t really have a special routine, but I try to keep my phone away and stay focused on the game. For me, that’s enough to play a long session without feeling like I’m forcing myself to keep going.

To stay focused during long poker sessions, I always try to use the breaks to step away and relax for a bit. I also like to have some music or a show playing in the background while I play.

Trying to avoid food coma, I try to eat small meals frequently in order to keep my energy levels stable. Vegetables like carrots are a nice snack while playing long sessions.

I use the 5-minute break to get up and stretch, do basic exercises. Sometimes I can do push-ups from the floor. It depends on my mood. But if I'm tired, I just go to bed, I don't start the game.

I always try to get a good night’s sleep the day before and eat well before a long session.
