I dont consider myself an "expert" in bankroll management, but I understand the theory behind it, and I use it myself. So I certainly feel qualified to give advice about bankroll management and has done it in many other threads. But to give more personal advice rather than write yet another article about the subject, I really need some more information from you like:

1) What kind of games are you going to play`
2) Do you have any previous track record?
3) What are your goals with bankroll management?

A lot of people use the word "bankroll management" without even understanding, what its for, or when it can be used. For starters you cant have a poker bankroll, unless you are a winning player. Most are losing players, and they can only have a poker budget not a bankroll.

I apologize for my first response to your post. I miss read your post while having other things on my mind. I was already frustrated about some guy I was at a table with in the CardsChat freeroll. The guy seem to know me well because he call me by my CardsChat name which is different from the name I have on the poker site I was playing on. Also he was accusing me of not having a Platinum freeroll pass and he just kept carrying on about random stuff. It felt real creepy and I literally had to tell him stop talking to me. Then I ran into your response and took it the wrong way I'm guessing because of my frustration. So once again I apologize and I hope we can move past this!

So I mostly play tourneys at the micro leavel especially because I'm a freeroll grinder. But every once in a while I put a good bit of money on the sites I play on and I end up loosing it all in a little over a few days. But I noticed that I'm loosing my money on cash games. It's like when I deposit I forget that I'm a tourney player and jump right into the cash games. I never really studied any material about cash games. But the thought of flipping the money quick keeps me going right back to the cash games. I really need help with this because I know my game has improved and I should not be loosing money like this.

I feel for you. I have a similar situation here.
But as @fundiver199 mentioned, you need to know what kind of games you need to play and that decision have to be based on proven edge you have over a certain period of time. (not on your preferences based on likeness of a certain format)

I don't know if I was clear enough to pass on the idea.

That sounds like a discipline problem more than anything else. First of all you need to make a plan and then stick to it. And then second you need to put up some bankroll management rules and follow them. Even if you are not a winning player in cash games, losing the entire deposit in just a few days mean, you have been playing way to high stakes. As you say yourself, "the thought of flipping the money quick" keeps you going back to cash games. And this is basically the mentality of a gambler.

Right now I am doing a challenge on PokerStars, where I started all over with a 100$ deposit. And even though this has been on to a good start, it has still taken me almost 2 month and more than 1.000 games played to reach 400$. So poker is not a get rich quick scheme, and understanding this is one of the steps needed to become a winning player. I am writing a bit about bankroll management in my challenge thread, so feel free to use it as inspiration:

You seem to already recognize that cash games drag down your bankroll. Well, only enter a ring game with 1/100 of your bankroll. If you risk 10 or 20 or 50 percent of your bankroll in a ring game, you will be making deposits on a frequent basis.

You need to know your statistics at a sufficiently large playing distance. It is enough to find out a few parameters in some poker tracker.[/FONT]

There is an absolutely exact bankroll formula that works for all poker formats.
You yourself can choose what risk of ruin is acceptable for you, for example 5%, 2%, 1%, ...

B = (D / 2m) * ln (1 / R)

B - bankroll
m - winrate (expectation)
D - variance
R - risk of ruin

For example, for a cash games with a winrate of 7.5BB / 100 and a variance of 100^2 BB^2 / 100, choosing a ruin risk of 5%, we get:

B = (100 * 100/15) * 3 = 2000BB

{ ln(1/0.05)~3 }

Everyone knows the rule of 20 stacks...

You can also calculate for SnG, knowing your winrate and standard deviation over a long distance.
