I think that if a person has a personality that is prone to addictions then anything you do could put you in this place of jeopardy if you give it extra importance ... it is just more pronounced when cash is involved ie. I drank away my family's dinner, or I gambled away the bill money at this point it is interfering in things that you need to live ... if it is a problem you can't get past then you probably should give it up yesterday .....
To me the difference is can you deal with the rest of your life .. if something is truly more important do you take a pause to make sure that important things get done .. your work .. your family .. friends etc.
I have played for many years ... but I don't feel that makes it an addiction ... because I feel I have balance and that to me is the most important thing as long as your whole life is together then I think however much time you spend doing something doesn't really matter, it is not addictive just to enjoy something very much. Only when it takes over other aspects that are just as important or more so is it a real problem .. To go one further if your whole life is not fairly balanced I don't feel your
poker game will be either or any other aspect of your life really, so in my mind you kind of have to start there then things seem to fall into place better ....
