Any time that the opponents are predictable, the game is easier.
People talk about styles but there aren't really any styles, just balance and imbalance, so when someone mentions a style what they are really talking about is the type of imbalance that one plays.
In the middle there is balance. When pros play against other pros, they play here.
In the lower left corner there are the nits, too tight and too passive.
In the lower right there are the calling stations, too loose and too passive.
In the upper right there are the lags and maniacs, too loose and too aggressive.
In the upper left there are the tags. These are the smart players who exploit the overfoldy nits with aggressive bets, the calling stations with range advantage and value bets, and the lags with range advantage and value calls and traps. This is also how pros adjust to take money from amateurs and recs.
Even the tag style is imbalanced and will get exploited by balanced pros.
If you are playing against pros, play balanced (which is hard to do). If you are playing against recs, play tight and aggressive. This is exploitative poker. The other 3 styles, nits, calling stations and lag/maniacs are all just fish.
