10-20 years ago yes, but today you have everything online, youtube content and forums like this!

I always recommend beginnings not to learn, or at best quit, but SUPER SYSTEM 2 is excellent, covering most versions of the game.

If you consider it too advanced, supplement it with watching videos on YouTube. Live, you can also see how people actually play.

I couldn't really recommend any books, but nowadays everything is online. You can watch the best players streaming at almost any time, or even find free videos with really good content. You just have to take the time to look for them.

I facilitate a poker book study group on Rec.Poker. We have covered poker books on all topics from beginning strategies to specific subjects. For a beginner I would recommend The Game Plan by Matt Matros. This is primarily geared towards tournament poker, but it gives you a solid foundation to build upon. We have covered books from ICM to GTO and beyond. I still believe it is possible to gain knowledge and insight from poker books.

I personally can't recommend any strategy books for beginners as most of my books were some of the best some 15-20+ years ago and I wouldn't recommend Modern Poker Theory to a beginner. For a beginner I'd start with the free 30-day course this forum offers. It can be found here..... https://www.casino.us/poker/strategy/become-a-winning-poker-player/

For more non-strategy poker books I would recommend this one(there's also a 2nd version)..... https://www.indigo.ca/products/the-mental-game-of-poker?variant=46166186983601

Fwiw there is also lots of great free stuff on youtube. Just search Jonathan Little and Carrot Corner-Peter Clark.

Cheers!!!

The best way I've found is with AI. You start a conversation, ask all the questions you want, and progress at your own pace. Plus, the AI tracks your progress over time... I started a year ago and I've really made progress.
