What is the first thing you look for when sitting at a new poker table?

Some of the things I look at is the opponents themselves, their age, gender, where are they from, how are their chips stacked, how many chips do each opponent have, are they doing chip tricks, are they paying attention, are they talkative, are they talking poker strategy, is what they are saying making sense as far as poker theory goes, how are they dressed, do they have a backpack, are they drinking, are they drunk, do they smell like pot, how is their mood, are they tilted from a prior hand, yeah that’s about what I’m looking at and paying attention towards. When I sit at a new poker table, the first thing I look for is who the weakest players are and how everyone is playing. I pay attention to who is playing too many hands, who is very aggressive, and who seems overly tight. I don't want to make assumptions too quickly, though—I prefer to observe a few hands before adjusting my strategy

I look at my opponents, see what countries they are from, during the game I observe, if they are conservative or aggressive, in order to make my betting decisions.

I usually look for patterns before players.

Who is entering too many pots? Who is folding too much? Who is raising consistently? And, perhaps most importantly, who is making decisions quickly without much thought?

I don't try to label someone after one hand. I prefer to watch a few orbits and collect small pieces of information.

For me, the first goal at a new table isn't finding someone to attack. It's understanding how the table is behaving.

A true poker face isn't about looking emotionless—it's about staying consistent. Whether you're holding the nuts or bluffing with nothing, your expressions, timing, and body language should remain the same. The less information you give away, the harder it is for your opponents to read you.
