KJ is a hand I see a bit differently depending on where I’m sitting.

Early position, I’m usually not too excited about it. There are still plenty of players behind me and someone can wake up with a better hand. On the button, though, if everyone folds around, I’m much happier seeing a flop with it.

What about you — would you play KJ from early position, or just let it go?

I would open KJo UtG but I often fold QTo UtG.

Button, if the table is generally extra weak, I'll open stupid wide. 6-max table and a bunch of passive Villains. 1 limper to me on BT, I open K-rag suited, hah! Blinds fold, limper calls. 6T3 with 2 hearts (I have no flush draw at all). Villain checks, I c-bet. He folds. Thx for the money ya dumb fish.

Small pot but our hand is pretty crappy. All that we had was position. Aggression wins.

I’m pretty much the same. KJ can be playable, but from early position I’d usually fold it, especially at a full table. On the button, though, it’s an easy open if everyone folds to me.

Yeah, I can see why you’d mix calling and folding with KJ. I’m still learning these spots, so position and the players behind me definitely make the decision harder.

That’s interesting, especially opening KJo UTG. I’m still a bit cautious with KJ early, but I can see how position and aggression can win those small pots.

I’m pretty close to you on this one. Full table makes me more cautious with KJ, but on the button I’m much more comfortable opening when everyone folds.

Bad strategy is far more common than good strategy. Most strategic failures stem from a lack of reliability, logic, and execution. When in position, you decide whether to bloat the pot with a bet or see the next card for free by checking. From early position, you have to guess whether an opponent will bet after you check.

If you think its ok to sitter limp it changes nothing, but for everyone else position is very important.

It’s going to really depend on the players that I am up against. If I am playing in my passive home game then yeah KJ from EP is playable for me. Why? I can raise it and not fear being 3 bet because no one ever 3 bets unless they have AA or KK so when they do I can easily just fold.
If I’m playing in Vegas and up against good players then I’m fold KJ from EP because I don’t want to face a 3 bet with this hand. I’ll be out of position in a bloated pot with a hand that is probably dominated. It’s an easy fold. It’s also going to depend on the stack sizes. If I’m short stacked and need a double up then yeah I’m probably shoving with this hand. So it depends on a lot of factors.
That same hand can be played more profitably from late position. So position, stack size, who I am playing against all determine not just if I will play “KJ” but if I will play any particular hand. So have a plan, remember this is a people game played with cards not a card game played with people.
