You fold for 20 minutes straight, get annoyed, then suddenly start convincing yourself that hands like K9o or weak suited aces are “playable” from bad positions.

A lot of bad sessions probably start from simply being tired of waiting.

Anyone else notice they play way worse when the table gets slow?

If you are bored you can probably play one more table or watch a video at the same time. No need to suffer through it or because of it.

Poker is a game of dicipline, even if your brain wants action it is better to stay calm.
Boredom creates impatience, and impatience creates bad ranges.
Staying focused is one main goal of playing poker ( so no videos/TV, 3 more tables, all these things lead to loss of focus)

I think you should analyze at what point in the tournament you decide not to play hands like AX or K9. There are times when they can be playable and you can get an advantage. But if you're referring to a time in the tournament when it's not appropriate, look for ways to avoid boredom. Consider another complementary activity, a low-risk cash game or a new tournament that is taking place simultaneously.

K9 is as playable hand as is police dog doing their job.
The same applies to weak suited aces since there are no unplayable hands..

But then again if someone does fold for 20+ minutes straight then it's probably understandable why they (seem to) lose their freakin' mind

Exactly. When the table slows down, your brain starts looking for action just to break the boredom 😂
Then hands like K9o suddenly become “maybe playable,” and before you realize it, you’re getting into marginal spots purely out of impatience.

The brain seeks constant stimulation, and when a session becomes repetitive, an unconscious need to create action emerges.

If the game seems too slow, you can always open another table. It really helps :)

Well if you are card dead for a long time , of you don't play other tables at the same time to fill the empty time moments , ots natural to get very bored , or even start playing hands that normally you wouldn't . I think everyone has done it many times .

Good morning everyone.

I started playing poker in 2018, and what I’m going to talk about was very common back then. Many players have already gone through this.

Poker is a game of patience. You need to have a lot of patience, especially in tournaments. And it’s difficult to maintain that patience playing on a cellphone or playing only a few tables, like one, two, or three tables.

Right now I’m playing on my cellphone, and I notice that I end up playing very bad hands precisely because of impatience. When I had my computer with a 27-inch monitor, I was able to play several tournaments at the same time, six, seven, eight tournaments. So I waited much more. Sometimes I stayed there with five or six blinds waiting for a really strong hand.

On the computer it’s different. You can wait more because you are focused on several tables at the same time. On the cellphone, looking at only one screen, the game becomes much more mentally exhausting. In tournaments you can spend two hours waiting for hands, get pocket aces, and still bust out. That wears you down and people really do lose patience.

So it depends a lot on the device you are playing on. On the computer you can have much more discipline and patience. On the cellphone it’s normal to become more impatient and end up forcing plays.

I find that some poker rooms have a boring and ugly design, so it's hard for me to concentrate at the table.

It occasionally happens to me too. I get so bored of folding that when I'm on the button I'll widen my range of hands to attack the blinds. So, yeah I might raise with K9 not suited. Or, for instance, if early positions raises with what I perceive to be a tighter range, I will follow with suited connectors- which sometimes works sometimes it doesn't work.

Sometimes I think boredom is more dangerous than tilt

I'd like to say that I don't fall into the mistake you've mentioned- having to fold for 20+ minutes and just look at your stack going smaller and smaller without you doing anything... I'm also a 'victim' of starting to play a playable face card (like for example any Ax, even Kx especially if suited), not to be confused with a playable hand from good position... Like other members said, working on your patience/discipline, opening extra tables and/or watch something while playing can help (I guess it depends where you are as a poker player), but I still have to agree with the name of the thread: boredom can be more dangerous than tilt!

Yeah, I can't say I've never widened my range because of that either, but like they said, you can play multiple tables to help with it. I'm not sure what will "work" for you, but identifying the problem is already half the battle.

Yes, it’s really boring. That’s why I usually can’t play just one table at a time, I have to be playing 3–4 tables at the same time.

Boredom can be more dangerous than tilt because it quietly leads to autopilot and poor decisions, while tilt is easier to recognize and control.

Boredom, I have never actually experienced boredom in a game.
It's the passion that drives you to continue to improve, that's the real boredom remover.

As others have already said, If you regularly feel bored during a game of online poker, then just add more tables. If you are playing from a phone, then the first step might be to start playing from a laptop instead. Towards the end of a tournament session we might still only have 1-2 tables running and no desire to add more. And then thats the time, we might resort to a bit of multitasking to avoid boredom. Like reading the news, posting in the CC forum etc. With cash games this should never be a problem, since you can just close all your tables, when you want to take a break or end your session.

Same here. When the table gets too slow, I sometimes start forcing marginal hands just out of boredom.
I think the best thing is staying patient and remembering that folding is also part of winning poker.
