I really liked how this chapter explains equity in a simple way. Before learning about it, I think it is easy to look at a hand only in terms of whether you are currently ahead or behind.
What I found interesting is that equity gives us a better way to think about the situation. Instead of only asking “Who has the best hand right now?”, we can consider how often we are likely to win by the end of the hand.
I also think understanding equity is especially important when making decisions about whether to call, raise or fold. A hand that looks weak at first can still have enough equity to continue in the right situation.
I’m curious about one thing: when you’re playing at the table, how do experienced players estimate equity quickly without actually doing the math?
