We only learn from those who won... and maybe that's the problem.

When someone wins a major tournament or builds a successful poker career, the recipes soon appear:

"That was the secret.”
“It was that decision that changed everything.”
“Just follow that path.”

But we hardly ever ask the question:

How many did the exact same thing and didn't get there?

That's the famous survivor bias.

We know the story of who won because it was told. The thousands who studied, dedicated themselves and yet failed to achieve the same result almost never show up.

That doesn't take away the winners' merit. But it shows that copying someone's path doesn't guarantee the same destination.

In poker, context, season, opponents and, of course, variance also weigh.

Perhaps we should listen more to those who tried, made mistakes, broke the bank, started over, or simply decided to stop.

These stories also teach a lot.

this does not apply only to poker, in every field we tend to see those who made it and forget about the ones that tried super hard and made the same path but did not make it to the top.
Poker is a game with high variance and playing the same tournament the same way does not guarantee the same result, so I think it's more exciting to enjoy watching the winners and learn the theories from the best, and build your own path ✌️

Exactly! 👏 I think the most important thing is to learn from the winners without forgetting that their result doesn't tell the whole story . In poker, each trajectory has its own variations.

we generally do this because it gives us motivation and what we see is exactly the truth we feel to apply in our life also thats why we depends on them.

There is no secret .play good poker and win flips that's all there is to it,not a poker player in the world that is good doesn't win flips.try to think of any tournament you have ever won that you didn't win one or more flips,the secret is not getting into a lot of flip situations that is the difference between losing player's and winning player's that's my thoughts of playing for over 50 years

Concórdia. The story of the winner truly inspires and motivates. The problem is when we confuse inspiration with a guaranteed formula for success. I think that's where the bias comes in.

I agree. I think the path is much more important than the final result. In poker, one successful outcome can be heavily influenced by variance, while the process and decisions are what really matter in the long run.
