What Is the Biggest Mistake Recreational Poker Players Make?

I think one of the biggest mistakes recreational players make is trying to win every hand. Sometimes patience is the best strategy. Playing too many marginal hands can put you in difficult spots, and after a few bad beats, emotions can make things even worse. Staying disciplined and focusing on making good decisions rather than chasing results can make a huge difference

I am an amateur player myself, but I already have some experience. I think the most common mistake is when players play too many hands. Instead of gaining experience, systematizing and improving their game - they are actually playing bingo.

For me it’s chasing losses. A bad beat is part of poker, but trying to win those chips back immediately is where the real damage starts. Been there, not fun lol.

After the number one mistake ... playing too many hands, I think ignoring position is the biggest mistake recreational players make. They play the same hands from early position as they would from the button, without realizing how much harder it is to make good decisions when acting first.

Definitely playing too many hands, when you're opening a lot of hands (High VPIP), you'll get exploited by the Villain, he knows you have anything and he's going to make you bleed, for real, once he hits something and you're both fighting for the same POT.

Playing marginal hands out of position.

I think the biggest mistake is playing emotionally instead of making decisions based on the situation. Playing too many hands and chasing draws often come from the same problem: not knowing when to let a hand go.

For me, the biggest mistake is probably playing too many hands. A lot of recreational players seem to get bored waiting for a good hand, so they start playing almost anything and then get into difficult situations after the flop. I also think chasing losses is a big one. After a bad beat, it’s easy to think, “I just need to win this hand back,” and that’s when people start making decisions they normally wouldn’t make. I’m still learning myself, but I’ve found that being patient and knowing when to fold is just as important as knowing when to bet. You don’t have to win every hand to have a good session
