Variance. I understood the "concept mathematically" from the very beginning, but it took me years to truly accept "emotionally" that you can play well and still lose for long stretches of time... Another one, as obvious as it may sound, is bankroll management.

The hardest poker lesson, and one that takes years to truly internalize, is the ability to completely separate the outcome from the quality of the decision. It didn't take me years, but I quickly learned that you shouldn't get upset when you play badly, regardless of the outcome, and that you should be okay when you lose money, as long as you played correctly.

I believe that even when making the best decisions, the results are never immediate, and patience and dedication are more than just virtues.

The hardest poker lesson for many players is learning that good decisions are more important than short-term results. Success comes from focusing on making the best play, regardless of whether you win or lose a particular hand.

Accepting variance, and that as much as you play well doesn't always guarantee you victory.

I think it's about calculating my chances of improving my hand on a post-flop bet. A draw comes on the board, and I end up paying too much sometimes.
