What is the most costly mistake amateur players make?
We always talk about bad bluffs, paying too much or playing too many hands before the flop.
But if you had to choose a single mistake that costs casual real-money players more money, what would it be?
Some options:
Paying for too many projects.
There are no foldable headphones.
Play too many hands from early positions.
Try to recover losses when they are tilted.
Not knowing how to retreat when an opponent shows a lot of strength.
Play with batteries that are too short.
Personally, I think the most costly mistake is not being able to retire with strong hands when the situation clearly indicates that they are lost.
What do you think?
What is the mistake that generates the most money?

The most expensive mistake recreational players make is playing too many hands and calling too often when they're likely beaten. While bad luck gets most of the attention, long-term losses usually come from poor hand selection, chasing weak draws, and failing to fold. Good players save money by avoiding costly mistakes and managing their bankroll wisely.

This idea of being trapped with no way out is a serious problem; I also tend to make this mistake. Perhaps what generates this attitude is anxiety.

I think that the biggest mistake is to try to see every flop, or entering in the hand with any AXo.
They usually pays till the river with a low pair too.

Overvaluing your hand and failing to fold. And when a couple of people get all-in before the money

Honestly, if you ask me, the two biggest money drainers for recreational poker players are playing too many hands from early position and trying to win back losses when you are tilted. Early position is tricky because you are forced to act before most of the table. Jumping into pots with weak hands there is like walking into a minefield, you dont know whats coming and it usually ends with you in tough spots or losing chips unnecessarily.

Tilt is another silent killer. You get a bad beat, frustration sets in, and suddenly you are calling, raising or chasing losses just to get even. Thats the fastest way to drain your bankroll. The fix isnt complicated, stick to solid starting hands when you are early in the betting order and when emotions creep in, step away. Discipline beats frustration every single time, and over time your bankroll will grow.

The worst mistake is when you pay for a hand, without being sure of what you have in hand, for example a good pair, against a ladder.

Algunas opciones:
Pagar por demasiados proyectos.
No existen auriculares plegables.
It doesn't really matter to analyze that. Since recreational players, who play every now and then for fun and if possible to get some money. They don't pay attention to what mistakes they make or don't, they play their money the way they want as long as it amuses them

I think it's tilt, and it's not even close.
Playing too many hands, chasing draws, or calling when you know you're beat are all expensive mistakes.
But tilt is the one mistake that creates all the others.
Once emotions take over, players start chasing losses, forcing action, and ignoring good decision making.

I agree about the tilt... I think maybe the difficult thing is to recognize yourself in that state in order to retire in time

El peor error es pagar por una mano sin estar seguro de lo que se tiene, por ejemplo, una buena pareja contra una escalera.
There you have to train about when a bluff is appropriate 🙂

I think that amateur players don't know how to fold. And I think that's their biggest problem. Amateur players don't assess risks well, and that makes it difficult for them to do something as simple as fold.

I think having a VPIP much higher than average is the most common mistake made by recreational players.

I think you nailed it with your personal opinion. Not being able to fold strong pre-flop hands (like AA, KK, or QQ) when the board gets incredibly wet and the opponent shows massive strength is definitely the biggest money burner for amateurs. It’s a huge ego trap; they feel entitled to win just because they started with a premium hand.Chasing losses while tilted is a close second, but failing to make big folds on the river is what truly destroys a casual player's stack in a single hand.

Hands down, the most expensive mistake recreational players make is calling down too light on the river when the action gets heavy.
