I'd probably say bankroll management. I used to think I could just win it back after a bad session by moving up in stakes. That only made things worse. Once I started sticking to proper bankroll rules and accepted that variance is part of the game, I played with a much clearer head.

Don't tap your fingers on the table while deciding how to play your hand. Took me about a month to break that habit, and in the meantime I checked a lot of hands that I would have liked to bet.

Trying to recover losses (tilt or revenge gambling) usually makes the situation much worse. I learned that ending a session when you're not playing well is far more valuable than trying to break even for the day.

The biggest lesson is that patience is a virtue, it doesn't matter if the guy who won the pot was playing J4o from the UTG, in the long run I'm going to crush him and take all his chips.

The lesson I learned the hard way was that patience is worth more than trying to recover the loss. I've already lost chips because I wanted to “get the profit back” quickly, playing hands that I should have let go of. Now that I understand, in poker, discipline and good long-term decisions are worth much more than winning a specific hand.

One lesson I learned the hard way is that bankroll management isn't optional. Early on, I'd move up in stakes after a few good sessions because I thought I was on a heater, then one bad downswing would wipe out a huge chunk of my bankroll. It took me a while to realize that variance doesn't care how confident you feel. Once I started sticking to proper bankroll management, poker became a lot less stressful and I was able to focus on making good decisions instead of worrying about every buy-in.
