I think beginners should fold weak aces and king-rag hands pre-flop, especially from early positions. Playing these hands out of position often leads to difficult spots and big mistakes post-flop. Tight play pre-flop saves a lot of chips.

Position is very important in poker, so it really depends on where you're sitting. If you're on the button, you can easily enter the pot with a hand like 75. But if you have AT in early position, I often fold because there's a good chance someone will 3-bet you anyway, and you'll probably have to fold then—but it will cost you more.

When you're out of position, facing significant action, or holding a weak hand with poor playability. Knowing when to fold pre-flop is just as important as knowing when to play—discipline is a key part of long-term success in poker.

For me, I’ve created my own personal range of hands that I feel comfortable playing. They’re hands where, if I hit something on the flop, I already feel confident continuing with the hand. If the cards are outside that range, I have no problem folding. I don’t worry about missing an opportunity or think “maybe I should just call and see the flop.” I simply fold and wait for a better spot. It makes my decisions much easier and helps me avoid getting into difficult situations with hands I’m not comfortable playing.

For me personally it's all about not falling in love with your hand. 😂 Position, stack size, action pre and the players involved are all factors that can determine whether folding that nice AJ, KQ or even a small pair pre is the right move. Sometimes it's better to let it go early rather than pay a steep price to see a flop that you think might hit. ♠️

You should fold pre-flop whenever your hand is unlikely to be profitable based on your position, stack size, and the action before you. Weak hands like low offsuit cards and dominated combinations are usually easy folds, especially from early position. If there has already been a raise or re-raise, it's often better to fold marginal hands rather than play difficult situations out of position. Good pre-flop discipline saves chips, avoids unnecessary risks, and is one of the biggest differences between winning and losing players.
