Why Is Poker Education So Important? 🧠♠️

I used to think playing more hands was the best way to improve at poker. But the more I learn, the more I realize that studying away from the table is just as important.

Learning things like position, ranges, pot odds, bankroll management and reading opponents can save you a lot of mistakes. You can’t control the cards, but you can improve the decisions you make with them.

For those who study poker regularly, what has helped your game the most: watching videos, reading strategy, reviewing your hands, or simply playing more?

I’m not really someone who studies poker in a traditional way. I don’t spend much time watching videos or reading strategy books. Most of what I’ve learned has come from the hands I actually play. After a tournament, I try to remember the hands where I wasn’t sure about my decision or where I felt I could have played differently. I think every hand can teach you something, even when you lose. For me, learning through experience makes more sense. I try to understand why a hand worked or didn’t work and use that experience the next time I face a similar situation. I’m still learning, but I believe that paying attention to my own decisions and being patient has helped me improve more than simply playing a lot of hands without thinking about them.

All of the fish who have accounts 5, 10, 20 years old and are still total fish because they don't study are the reasons why studying is important.

Studying and then practicing what you study just improves your game faster than playing alone. All of the old pros who learned it on their own took years, decades to put it all together. Nowadays, we can read everything that they know by reading their book in a weekend. Of course the game is far too complex to learn it all that quickly. We have to take each morsel of advice and test it out in practice hundreds if not thousands of hands for each morsel. However, we have a huge head start over the players who were starting out 30 40 50 years ago.

The information is there. We have the internet. Pretty much all of the information is free. Certainly all of the basics and semi-advanced is available for free.

I have a question.

If you have a business that is working quite well and you have competitors that have not the same success than you in this business area,
would you really tell them your secret for your success?

And now compare that to all the guys that are crying out loud: "Make this and you will be a winner in poker!"

This is a think twice area.
