A misconception, especially from newbies, is that poker is a ticket to an easy life. Poker is not like other jobs, like being a doctor or a teacher, where you can predict your salary. Poker doesn't work like that. There can be a lull for a long time, then a rise or a fall. There is no average salary. There is no way to guarantee a certain amount of money per day.

😂 What a disastrous piece of advice! That’s the very definition of the Gambler’s Fallacy. Every hand in poker is an independent event, and what happened before doesn’t change the odds for the next time. If you follow that advice, you’ll miss out on your most profitable spots! AA and KK are among the strongest hands, and folding them pre-flop because of “bad luck” before just shows a lack of understanding of basic probabilities in the game.

Do you want me to prepare 3 more alternative replies so you have different options to pos
t?

Perhaps the worst advice will come from someone who considers themselves an expert but plays too little; because someone who plays will ask a few more questions upon your request to explain something in order to provide a more accurate answer.

I don't want to say any names but there is a youtuber that gives advice on poker strategy and speaks how we should just play smallball poker. but even Tho you make the money more you don't give yourself a shot to win. that's just my thoughts.

Worst advice I ever heard was about following intuition. Poker has nothing to do with intuition, but rather skills, strategy, observing how the opponent plays and reacts.

I feel that the worst advice you can hear can come from a person who is not a professional and who in their life has played or who has dedicated themselves to it, those types of people are going to cloud a thought or an idea that you may have clearer than them and it does not represent the most sensible thing because they have no experience in the subject

I disagree on the advice that just studying poker would make one a winner in the long run. Studying would probably improve one's game but as poker is also a game of chance there is not a guaranteed future. Its more likely that one looses in the long run as such is gambling.

I had posted this before as a joke and got a demerit from management. Maybe I can get away with it this time because it is not really meant to be serious.
I was originally told this back in the old days at an outlaw seven stud game that was being held at an abandoned farmhouse down a long path one Friday night. I say "outlaw" because most everyone there was an outlaw of one kind or another.
I was young, dumb, and had not a clue as to odds or strategy. Those guys picked me clean as a chicken bone.
As I was leaving Pops said to me "Why don't you take two weeks off and then quit ."
I didn't quit and here I am years later still not having a clue as to odds or strategy and getting picked clean as a chicken bone on a regular basis.

Trust only high cards like AA, KK, or AK and don't attempt the sequences.

I think it's bad when we start playing to think that certain hands should be discarded immediately without prior analysis of the situation. I believe that as I gain more experience, people sticking to a certain range and thus always being profitable is wrong and frustrating.

The worst advice was to see every flop.
This is bad because you waste a lot of chips that way. It is better to use your chips to play cards that have a better chance of winning.

Me: How do I win at zynga poker?
Him: Just wait for a good hand and go all-in.
Me: *Going all in with Jacks preflop*
I still lost.
Him: Jacks isn't a good hand.

One of the worst pieces of poker advice I’ve ever come across is the notion that ‘you should always bluff to win.’ While bluffing is certainly an important part of the game, treating it as a constant strategy completely ignores crucial factors like your position at the table, the tendencies and psychology of your opponents, and the current dynamics of the hand. Following that advice blindly can quickly lead to massive losses and the development of very bad habits. The best advice emphasizes balance and adaptability—knowing when to play aggressively, when to fold, and always making decisions based on the specific situation rather than adhering to any rigid rule. Mastery in poker comes from understanding context, adjusting to your opponents, and recognizing that patience, timing, and observation are just as important as bold moves.

"if you've won a few times in a row, start folding AA/KK pre-flop because you're guaranteed to lose and vice-versa. Just an elaborate attempt to justify the Gambler's Fallacy" - I agree with such statement. This is the main characteristic of online poker. Therefore, I consider using mathematical calculations in online poker to be inappropriate advice.

The worst advice that I have ever heard of poker is not to play poker. He was a advice from a person who does not understand anything in the game at all, but knows that I will definitely lose my apartment if I play.

The worst advice is to move up a limit higher than the one you are playing in order to win back your losses.

Honestly, I have advised someone to bluff every time to win in Tourney.. and it turned out he lost a major online tourney after having amassed a lot chips in the early stage. Lol. He got called bad for all in for his 89s by someone with pocket KK.

Honestly, the worst poker advice I've ever heard is: "Just play tight and you'll always be profitable."

It sounds good on the surface, especially for a beginner, but it's a terrible long-term strategy. It's like telling someone to "just eat healthy food" without explaining that a varied diet is better than just eating the same salad every day.

Here's why it's so bad:

You become a statue. If you only ever raise with aces or kings, everyone at the table will know exactly what you have. You'll never get paid off on your big hands because everyone will just fold. They'll steal your blinds all day long, and you'll bleed chips while waiting for a good hand that no one will play against.
It kills your bluffs. A tight image is great for bluffing, but if you're always tight, you never get a chance to use it. You're so predictable that any aggressive move you make is seen as a sign of strength, and people will just get out of your way.
It ignores position. A tight strategy says a hand like 8-7 suited is garbage. But if you're in the last position and everyone has checked, that hand could win you a pot with a simple bet, or hit a monster flush or straight on the flop. A strict "tight" strategy makes you pass on all these opportunities.

In short, it's advice that gets you to the starting line, but leaves you there while everyone else is running the race. You need to be dynamic, not a robot. You have to be able to mix it up and occasionally get out of line to be truly successful.

I needed a long time to learn this. Thought I controlled the noobs but in fact they always folded when I bet. Had to learn to find a mixed way of playing to become less transparent.
