I'm planning to play live poker at a real casino for the first time, and I'm a little nervous because I've only played online before. For those of you who have experience playing live poker, what should a beginner know before sitting down at the table? I'm especially interested in how to prepare beforehand, the basic rules and etiquette I should follow, how buying chips and posting blinds works, how to act when it's my turn, and any common mistakes that first-time live players should avoid. Is there anything you wish you had known before playing at a live table for the first time?

Just be sure it’s your turn to act! Don’t get excited and act out of turn!

My biggest tip is to take your time and never feel rushed. online poker makes you used to mashing buttons, but live you have to declare your actions loudly and clearly and make sure you're doing everything in the right order. Never splash your chips in the pot and always remember that it's very bad form to act out of turn. The dealer is your friend and if you need clarification just ask. Have fun and don't worry about going broke on your first ever live session! ♠️

Your definitely going to have fun. I posted this 10 minute video farther down the page and it is an excellent primer for the basic procedures and etiquette at the tables.

These are a few things I've learned that will help.

  • If you aren't sure about something, don't be afraid to ask.
  • If you have the habit of tapping your fingers while you think, like I did, lose it fast because the dealer will probably interpret it as you checking the bet.
  • Verbally announce what you are doing when you bet or raise, and how much you are betting/raising if it is lower than the amount of chips you put in.
  • Stack your chips neatly by denomination.
An most importantly...enjoy the experience! 🙂

You can check some Youtube videos first to know when is your turn to act. There's some many YouTube videos available. You can also tell the dealer it's your first time playing poker. They are usually the ones who pay more attention to you and make sure you understand the action. Sure, the other players will think you're easy money. But just play money you can afford to lose. And play the minimum buy in

Just have fun and don't push yourself too hard
