Biggest Live Poker Mistakes You See at Low Stakes?

After playing live for a while, I’ve started noticing certain patterns at low-stakes tables that repeat over and over.

Some examples I’ve seen:

• Calling too wide preflop “because it’s live”
• Overvaluing one pair in multi-way pots
• Never bluffing rivers
• Playing scared with big stacks
• Limping constantly instead of raising

At the same time, live poker feels softer than online in many ways — but only if you adjust correctly.

So I’m curious:

What are the most common mistakes you consistently see in $1/$2 or $1/$3 live games?

And more importantly — which ones are the most profitable to exploit?

The "Limping Virus": Players love to limp in for $2 just to 'see a flop.' All this does is create massive, multi-way pots where your $A-K$ is suddenly a underdog against $7-4$ offsuit. Stop limping. If a hand is worth playing, it’s worth raising to thin the field

Biggest one I see: people treating top pair like it’s the nuts in multi-way pots.

Another classic: limp-calling preflop and then “hoping to hit something.” No plan, just vibes.

Most profitable exploit?
Value bet bigger and bluff less. Low stakes players hate folding but also hate bluffing, so just let them pay you.

The biggest one I see is people calling way too often because they "want to see it." A lot of players hate folding, even when it's obvious they're behind. Another common mistake is playing too many hands before the flop, especially from early position. I also notice people paying more attention to their own cards than to what everyone else is doing, so they miss valuable information about betting patterns and player tendencies. Just being patient, playing solid starting hands, and avoiding unnecessary hero calls already puts you ahead of a lot of low-stakes players.

The biggest mistake I see is that many players don't fold top pair, even on scary boards. They call down with one pair because they "don't believe you." Another common leak is limping too much and calling raises with weak hands out of position. River bluffs are also rare at these stakes, so when a tight player makes a big river bet, it's usually strong. The most profitable adjustment is to value bet thinner, bluff less, isolate limpers, and be patient instead of trying to outplay everyone.
