It was probably decades overdue, but in late March I was sitting right next to the dealer in seat 9. I'd looked at the cards when they were dealt to me and left them on the table while I was waiting for it to be my turn to play. It got around to me and before I could make a move the dealer snatched my cards and slid them into the muck. I made myself a card protector to prevent that from happening again by putting a casino chip into one of those holders used by coin collectors for silver dollars.

I didn’t even know what a card protector was, just learned it from this post. Probably because I play online, I never looked into live stuff.

Believe it or not I have one. I think that I won it for one of the old Individual Leagues that I played in. I loved those leagues because I could fit them into my schedule much easier than the other leagues you offer. I'll have to look for it because it would definitely be a good conversation starter, and maybe attract some new members around here. :)

I don't blame you. That is pretty much what happened to me. :(

I remember a long time ago everyone had some kind of card protector which I thought was fun! Now hardly anyone has one. I always use one of my chips or just keep my hands on them (not blocking anyone’s view). That nine spot is really easy for the dealer to grab those cards, I used to deal and it’s difficult in that spot. It would be fun if everyone went back the old school way and have protectors again, but mostly everyone is so serious even at low stakes now lol

I have never used a card protector and in 20 years of playing live poker I have never had a dealer muck my cards by accident. I do occasionally throw a chip on my cards in seat 1 or 9.

The old curse of being seated in seat 9 strikes again. I didn't ever use one either until about my 3rd year playing in my local casino and had that happen when I had JJ. Ironically it probably saved me from losing a bunch of money(was playing 1/2 cash) and I remember no J hit the flop. An ace did flop of course.

Cheers!!!

I watch a poker channel on YouTube, and the player always uses that weight to hold the cards. I didn't know I could take that risk of losing the cards.

Literal clownshow, this is why the wsop is a circus that dinosaurs and casuals play and Triton has some of the best players in the world so happy that they don't even bother playing any other circuits. That said, I highly doubt this would happen if the player was a man.

That’s actually a smart idea. Losing a hand because the dealer accidentally mucks your cards has to be one of the most frustrating ways possible.

And honestly, custom card protectors add a little personality to the table too. Small detail, but poker players always seem to remember them.

yep, the famous seat 1 and 9 problematic.. you always need to protect your hand that for sure, but the problem with the card protector is that you might add more live tells with those additional movements..
it's cool to have one though

that's a smart and stylish solution! Sitting in seats 1 or 9 is always dangerous for that exact reason. A card protector is a must-have to make sure the dealer knows your hand is live, especially when it's a cool custom piece like yours

Martin, I love my CC card protector, but how do you beat ol’ blue eyes looking at you as you play?

I’ve never had a dealer snatch my cards, but I started using a card protector my wife bought for me for luck…it replaced my left hand…Debi gave the 2019 WSOP Colossus team card protectors, hats and t-shirts, and I use them all when I play live poker.

I have a little "Lucky Buddha",( also called Laughing Buddha ), statue that I have used for many years. Since rubbing the belly is supposed to bring luck the patina is completely worn off of its belly.

That was a great idea; I have two card protectors I received as a gift from Cardschat, but I don't think I'll ever use them the proper way since I've never played live and don't intend to.

However, I’ve attached them to my computer to bring me luck in my online tournaments.

Good luck at the casino tables.

An excellent solution! They protect against scratches, moisture, and creases, especially for gold-plated decks.

It is not this kind of protector that she is talking about 👀

I've always used them... since I play a lot of live poker, I realized the importance of protecting my cards and avoiding a bad fold.

years ago i had my cards mucked by the dealer in a live action 4/8 limit holdem game , a huge pot of over $200 when i had a full house , easily the best hand . it was mostly my fault as i didn't turn my hand over immediately .

IMG 4531This could either deter or encourage the dealer, probably a coin flip.
