Mistake I made at DTD last weekend

Defining hand of the weekend

I held 86 spades on BB. Villain raised UTG to 3BB. I call. Flop is 66A. I check, he bets, I call. Turn 5 I check, he bets, I call. River Q I check, he bets, I call. He shows AJ off I show my 6 and start to slide my cards when its immediately announced I have now folded, did my best to argue that my chips were in the middle I'd said call showed him he was beat but no leeway. The cards were still under my hand but were past the line so yeah, sickener tbh as I had a big stack and was playing great. Hopefully I will learn from this.20260822 16371420260823 222337

You are supposed to show both your cards and not just one, so you did make a live poker mistake here. But with that being said, if your cards were still retrievable, this is a very poor ruling by the casino in my opinion. It should be a priority for them to make sure, the pot is rewarded to the right player rather than having rules just for the sake of having rules. Did you ask for a floor person to get called over, or was it the dealer making this decision alone? I would be interested in hearing Bart Hanssons opinion about this situation, so you could consider to send in the hand to his call-in show on CrushLivePoker.

Yes mate I fully agree, I'm supposed to show both cards so it was my own fault. I didn't get the chance to the call the floor as the local dealer snatched my cards and the local players who made such a big fuss about it almost had me banned for daring to question it quicker than you can say Usain Bolt. Live and learn I guess.

Ouch, that hurts 😭 Especially after playing the hand perfectly, and then losing it due to the cards crossing the line! I would be absolutely sick too, after having a huge stack and playing so well!
That's definitely a lesson that you won't forget! Next time, make sure to keep your cards protected until the dealer reveals the outcome! 😅♠️

Yeah for me the lesson to take away from this is to always show both your cards at showdown in live poker, and hold on to them, until the dealer reveals the outcome. Even top players like Phil Ivey have occationally mucked the winning hand, because they misread the board. There are also examples of people bluffing the river and mucking their cards saying "good call" or "you win". But actually the opponent called with a worse hand like J high against their Q high, so they accidentally bet for value and ended up mucking the winning hand.
