I’ve played mostly online, but recently started playing more live sessions. The pace is obviously slower, but I also noticed the dynamics feel completely different. People talk more, give off physical tells, and ranges seem wider in certain spots.
At the same time, patience becomes way more important because you’re playing fewer hands per hour.
For those who play both regularly, what do you think is the biggest adjustment when switching from online to live? Is it exploitative play, mental game, bet sizing, reading people… or something else?
Would love to hear your experiences.

You'd have to be able to count chips and know what colours represent what amounts. It feels very unnatural after playing online and having all of that taken care of.

The online games go at a fast pace and live games are a lot slower than the pace you are used to.
There is a lot happening in the live environment and it is easy to get distracted and lose focus of being in the moment.

One very important adjustment is paying attention to the pot size; you need to keep count in your head.
The 2nd important one, and you mentioned it yourself, is to get ready to use ALL the patience you can.

Then of course, the pace, the talk, people's behavior etc.

In live games there are much bigger and more stimuli! Not just math! Gestures, body language, conscious and subconscious!

Have faith on three of a kind and straights, probably less bad beats LOL
Who knows, I guess live poker and online poker only difference is that there is a atmosphere on the table, instead of just nicknames and chips.
God bless

The biggest shock moving from the screen to the felt isn't the physical cards—it’s the brutal change in pace. Online, you’re seeing 60 to 100 hands per hour (per table!). In a live game, you’re lucky to get 25. That lack of 'action' is where online players lose their minds and start playing trash hands just to feel something

I’ve mostly played online, but recently started playing more live games and the difference is pretty interesting. The pace is much slower and there seems to be a lot more focus on reading people and table dynamics.

For those who play both, do you adjust your strategy a lot when switching between live and online? What were the biggest things you had to adapt to when you first started playing live?

I’ve spent today bouncing between an online grind and a live session at the local room, and it feels like two different sports. Online, I feel like a scientist in a lab, clicking buttons based on ranges. Live, I feel like a gladiator in an arena where my physical presence matters as much as my cards

The transition is such a trip - it’s like going from a fast-paced video game to a slow-burn psychological thriller.
I really had to learn to sit on my hands because the slower pace makes it so tempting to play "trash" just to stay involved.
Once you realize people live fold way less than they do online, you can really start punishing them with value bets!

Reading people and pace of play is much different in person ..people hiding through a screen will play anything ..the walk of shame in front of people tones that down somewhat live

Transitioning from online poker to live play is a change of discipline, not just a transfer of skills. The most difficult adjustment is usually the combination of the slow pace of play and the need to read physical cues.
