Working in the Poker industry

I really love poker and the industry in general,

If I wanted to start working in the industry where would be the best place to start looking and what are the sort of jobs out there in the poker world. Other than playing.

I mean playing would be super but the bankroll is missing currently. So let's start at the bottom. As they say in the classics and move on up.

Where do you live? Are you in a bigger city? In most big cities there's a casino. Some will post jobs on their sites. You can start working as a dealer. I find working as poker dealer improves your observational skills. It will be useful in the future if you want to play later on. When you have a bigger bankroll at least. If that job is not available, you can try any other job that allows you to get your foot in the door. Then express interest for being a poker dealer later. If not, just get any job. Go occasionally and play low stakes and ask the dealers if they know if any jobs are available.

I worked in a casino for a while. It was really easy to get the job, I felt like it was fate at the time but I found the actual training really intense and I didn’t like the constant scrutiny you are placed under in this industry.

I did get to spend 6 weeks alone at a casino table shuffling chips, dealing cards and spinning roulette wheels during my training though which was awesome.

I live in South Africa so there is a much smaller community here. With very few private game scenes

I think that more than just wanting to work in the poker industry, you should first have some experience in something related to it. I’m not very knowledgeable about the topic, but I believe it would be a good idea to apply for any job in casinos in your country and take whatever opportunity you can get. Then you can gradually focus on getting more deeply involved in something directly related to working in poker.

There are actually quite a few ways to get into the poker industry without being a professional player. Dealing is probably the most common starting point since it gives you a solid understanding of the game and can lead to roles like floor supervisor or tournament director. If you're more interested in the business side, poker sites and casinos hire people for customer support, fraud prevention, game integrity, marketing, social media, content creation, affiliate management, and operations. There are also opportunities with poker media covering tournaments, writing strategy articles, editing videos, or working on live streams. I'd say the best approach is to figure out which part of the industry excites you the most, then start building experience there while networking at local casinos and poker events. A lot of people who have been in the industry for years started in entry-level roles and worked their way up.

Go to a casino near you, first you train generally as a croupier then poker, you will enjoy it more that way, just a heads-up this job ain't for the faint hearted 😂😂😂
