Do you ever play differently when you have a big bankroll cushion?

I’ve noticed that when my bankroll feels comfortable, I’m usually more relaxed and confident at the tables.

When the bankroll is lower, every decision feels bigger and sometimes I end up playing too carefully.

Do you think having a bigger bankroll changes the way you play?

Certainly, I'd play more exploitatively, most of the times.

Yes, it definitely can — but ideally, it shouldn’t.
A bigger bankroll usually makes you feel more comfortable, which can help you play more confidently and stick closer to your strategy instead of playing scared. That’s a good thing. But if it leads to playing looser, taking unnecessary risks, or deviating from solid fundamentals, then it becomes a problem.
On the flip side, when your bankroll is smaller, it’s common to feel pressure and play too tight or avoid +EV spots just because you’re worried about losing.
In theory, your decisions should stay the same regardless of bankroll — every hand should be played based on EV, not emotions. But in practice, bankroll management directly affects mindset, and mindset affects decisions.
So I’d say: a bigger bankroll shouldn’t change how you play, but it often changes how you feel while playing — and that’s where the difference comes from.

That’s 100% true and I played the exact same way once my bank role gets down lower. I always win when is higher. I play a lot more loose.

Not really, at least I hope so.
I have good bankroll management, so if my bankroll was less for that level, I would go lower.

The size of buy-in for Cash or MTT should not change your playing style. However, I find playing tighter than I should when registering for a larger Buy-in MTT than my normal BI MTT.

I think you at least have the peace of mind that you can afford downswings and bad sessions/bad decisions and not be stressed about paying the bills. On the other hand you could play too aggressively or be too confident about your decisions. I guess everything in moderation- don't be too aggressive with bad cards, you might get called on your bluffs.

I usually have 8 to 10 basic strategies; we know that in this game there are other factors that influence the results, but following my strategies has given me good results.

My bankroll doesn't affect my game because I always keep it at the same level. It's always between $100-$150. Anything more I withdraw. I can make a deposit if necessary.

It definitely has an impact. With more money, we tend to play looser and more confidently; with less, we become more cautious. The problem is overdoing either side. Ideally, we should keep the same decision-making level regardless of our bankroll.

Of course I do, its why I quit playing over my bankroll amount. Scared money rarely wins.

Of course, if you don't pay attention, you'll make more frivolous decisions, saying there's still plenty to play. You have to learn to handle that too.

I definitely get more aggressive when my bankroll is strong. I will also move up a level until reality knocks me back.

It's true that it allows you to have a little more flexibility in your hands, but it shouldn't change your game much.

Yes, a bigger bankroll can make you feel more comfortable taking certain spots.

You may be more willing to handle variance, play higher volume, or take calculated aggressive lines.
But ideally, strategy should still stay disciplined regardless of bankroll size.

Overconfidence from a big bankroll can also lead to unnecessary risks.
Good bankroll management and decision-making should always come first.

I think it makes a big difference; when I have a larger bankroll, I play more calmly and manage to get better results.

Honestly? Yes, absolutely. Anyone who says otherwise is probably lying to themselves!

When I have a massive bankroll cushion, I definitely notice that I play with way less fear. I’m much more willing to pull the trigger on a big, high-variance bluff, or make a thin value bet that I might skip if I was feeling the pressure of a downswing.

Sure, I can play more aggressively. I don't like to play under pressure.

The size of your bankroll doesn't affect what cards you're dealt, but rather your ability to play each one psychologically correctly. The reason players need a bankroll is to protect themselves from losing all their poker money. No matter how you play poker, you'll have periods when you can't win, no matter what you do.

Not really no as if I'm bankroll isn't big enough for the stakes I'm playing and I don't feel comfortable I'm smart enough too move down a level to where it's comfortable.

With that said I'm always changing gears to take advantage of my image and how I'm perceived by villains specially in cash games. In MTT's I change gears depending on stack size+image.

Cheers!!!

You definitely do not want to be in a situation, where u feel, its a disaster to not cash in this particalar tournament or lose this particular cash game hand. If u feel like that, you are probably underrolled and should either move down or set aside more money for poker. In cash games maybe avoid playing to deep by table changing. If you play 10 NL, maybe you dont need to risk 31$ in a single hand against a strong opponent.

Yes, everyone plays like that. When I have a big stack, I often play hands like 45, 75, or 86 — why not? Right now I’m watching wsop on YouTube, and sometimes I see players getting involved with hands that even I would be afraid to play in a freeroll in that situation!
