I use 5 min breaks to reset mentally. During breaks, I step away from the screen, walk a bit, do different exercises, hydrate, and avoid anything stimulating. Before playing, I keep it simple: light food, maybe some coffee, and a clear goal focused on decision quality, not results. I also reduce tables if I feel concentration slipping. The key is recognizing early signs of fatigue autopilot, missed details, emotional reactions and pausing instead of pushing through and making costly mistakes.

During long sessions, I like to leave the TV on, showing a series or movie, so I don't get too focused and tired, and have something easy to eat during breaks to stay as comfortable as possible.

Staying focused during long poker sessions is mostly about managing your mind and your environment.
I like to think of it as treating your attention like a resource you spend carefully rather than something you hope will last.
Taking short, intentional breaks every hour keeps your decision‑making sharp instead of letting fatigue creep in.
Many players also set small mental checkpoints — for example, reviewing their table image or stack dynamics — to stay engaged with the game.
Keeping your phone out of reach and minimizing distractions helps you stay in the flow instead of drifting.
Hydration and light snacks make a surprising difference, because your brain performs better when your body isn’t running on empty.
And maybe the most important part: accept that focus naturally fluctuates, and reset yourself when you feel it slipping instead of trying to power through.

I feel like you need to be 100% committed to the tournament or cash game, because if you’re just playing for the sake of it or without motivation, it becomes much harder to stay focused. That level of commitment is what keeps you engaged during the session.

Also, I think that if you take care of and resolve things outside of poker, you’ll play much better and maintain your concentration without distractions.

I try to find something interesting to focus on, especially if I'm card dead and fold a lot- that can be extremely boring. I try to see if other players have obvious reads, if they make missteps, what ranges they play, if they play GTO, their bet size. Small things like that keep me entertained when nothing happens for me. I also listen to music or podcasts or watch YouTube videos.
