Leaving money on poker sites: How much is too much?

I’d keep enough on each site to comfortably cover the stakes and volume I’m playing, then withdraw anything above that. I wouldn’t need my entire poker bankroll sitting online, especially spread across sites I rarely use. For me, the balance would depend more on my usual buy-ins and how quickly I could redeposit than a fixed dollar amount.

I think it's a normal to keep money only for next session on balance

Whenever I can, I make a withdrawal; I don’t see the point in leaving money sitting idle on the site. They could change their withdrawal rules, or your country might block access to the site for some reason—so it’s much better to have that money earning interest in my own bank account.

I don’t keep more than $100, because there’s simply no need to hold any more. For me personally, $100 is more than enough for playing.

Currently my entire bankroll is online, I think it will always stay online unless I'm a profitable player at higher stakes. Right now I'm moving up the stakes and keeping my bankroll on a site allows me to keep it segregated from everything else.

Back when I was playing a lot more and grinding a lot more then now I use keep at least $500 to allow me too play 10nl+ cash and high buy-in($5-$215 MTT's) on weekends. Once I got the amount up too $5000+ on the site I would withdraw it down too $500 and start over building too $5000+ again. Never had reason to not trust Pokerstars and still the best site far and away when it comes to security and trust. If one's playing on a site he can't trust with at least $5000 then he's playing on the wrong site. When it comes to money trust and security should be at the top of the main things to look for in a site.

When it comes to how much to keep on site it really depends on the stake level one plays, the volume one puts in and how comfortable he is.

Cheers!!!

If you are going to hold any amount on a site, make sure you know their policies regarding inactivity and any fees that they charge for that. Not an issue if you are frequently playing, but dormant accounts sometimes get money confiscated or just a fee charged.

The rooms have their burglary security, so there's no drama with leaving money to keep playing.

I usually keep around $200 across a few sites that way I can play a decent tourney if I feel like it. I trust the big sites with my money whatever the amount or I wouldn't use them.

This is a great strategy. It doesn’t make much sense to have more in your poker bankroll than you need to play. Withdraw your wins on a regular basis and leave just enough in there to play your usual games. With things like withdrawal policies and access changing there is no reason not to keep your bankroll in your own control. ♠️💯

This is a great bankroll management method! This way you are always keeping enough on site to play your regular games and only cashing out any profits above your aim. It is also a good idea to consider how trustworthy and secure the poker site is. You definitely wouldn’t want to be risking extra money that you don’t really need to be playing with. ♠️💯

Thanks I've always found it too work pretty good for me and helps keep me from going broke on the site and from having too deposit. I like to challenge myself to see how long I can go without depositing. Other then of course wanting to try a new site for the first time then I'll deposit $50 and I'll do that when and if I wanna play cash there because I'm not interested in MTT's under $5 usually so end starting at 2nl and working my way too $500.

Like any method thou it's only as good as ones discipline. If I only have $500-$700 on site I can't be going and playing $100+ MTT's.

Cheers!!!

Keep it in the game, as the transaction fees might be enough to cover a small buy-in.

If you are a micro or low stakes player and dont trust the site enough to have your entire poker bankroll sitting on it, you should probably find another site to play on. Or you can spread your risk by playing on 2-3 different sites, like I currently do. However if you are not playing on a site for an extended period of time, then by all means withdraw your funds and leave only a few bucks to be able to occationally log on and play a few hands.

I don’t play much these days, so I don’t have a lot of money in my account, which is why I’m comfortable leaving it in the poker room. However, I don’t think I’d leave a very large amount there, because if they decide to ban you for any reason, it can be difficult to get your money back.

I like to keep just enough in my poker account to cover my buy-ins. Anything beyond that goes into my investments.

This is a good idea and it is best to spread your funds out across a few reliable sites. I would always prefer to take profits out of my account regularly rather than keep too much in there than I need to play my usual games. Better be safe than sorry! ♠️😄

I think withdrawing winnings regularly is a smart way to protect your bankroll.
I would keep enough money in my poker account for a few buy-ins and store the rest safely.
This helps manage risk and prevents the temptation to play higher stakes after a winning session.

For those who say that more than a few days of buying ins are not necessary and money standing still, the idea is to leave it in a place with easy liquidity and that preferably yields, even if little.

Its much better to learn the discipline required to follow proper bankroll management. In that way you can keep your poker money separated from other money, and you dont need to constantly move money in and out of poker sites, which often involve some kind of transaction costs. A winning player should mainly be withdrawing and only occationally depositing to move money around between sites.

I’m withdrawing my money because I think it’s safer to keep it in my bank accounts. Especially as, if I need to, I can always make a deposit, and it only takes about a minute.
