Being a poker player when I was notified by the world media that the human being had been hit by the computer Libratus in the game.
It would be great to be able to say that it was a tight victory and that in an eventual rematch the gaming pros would take the best, but this was not the case. Artificial intelligence won from a team of exceptional professionals.
The obvious concern of the people was, "Will it be the end of poker? And now?" First of all, it's important to say that what happened is not exactly new. There have already been two important events related to computers and skill games. The most memorable happened in the duel between Deep Blue and the chess player Gary Kasparovem 1997. Although the Russian later argued that he could have played better against the computer, this victory entered the history of the duels between man and machine. Another when a computer mastered the game of "Limit Hold'em", that is, solved the game mathematically. The difference was that this time the format was `` No-Limit hold'em``, game with much more Variables and much more dependent on human sensitivity than pure mathematics. It is also worth mentioning that the Libratus challengers played in harsh conditions, with many hours of play a day, few breaks and no right to stop when they went into "tilt", Something very common in poker between humans. Obviously what happened does not change anything poker live. The thrill of picking up chips, seeing your opponent's reaction when looking at your cards and pulling a gigantic pot remains the same. In online poker it may seem worrying to win the Libratus but it is important to put a relevant point- The computer-beaten game represents a small part of what is played online: Most people play `` No-Limit hold'em``, but in Table with six or more people. In addition, Libratus takes longer than allowed by online poker sites to make their decisions.

Very good, could you put the link, where did you read that stuff?

I think AI is going to be a big problem for online poker in not so distant future. There are already available poker bots that are supposedly winning small stakes games.

This post I wrote through conversations in poker chat and readings on sites that I no longer remember, but if you want to delve deeper into the subject there are many sites that you can search, I hope I have helped you.:deal:

This tread must be in "Paranormal" or "Fiction" topic

This is the futture like in all other things were comupters and robotts took place of hummans.

When it comes to games that involve a lot of mathematical and probability calculations such as Poker and Chess computers will always be better at it than humans. Our brains are just not wired to perform vast amounts of mathematical calculations in a short period of time.

This does not mean the end of online poker or online chess. Why would it? In chess you get a choice these days to play against a bot or human and in poker bots are not allowed at all. No sane casino will ever allow bots if they value their customer base.

People will still try to cheat however but they do so at their own risk. At best they stand to lose their money and at worst they can end up in jail.

well it make lots of sense that computer beats a legend like kasparov , but in poker it doesnt make sense , it will be tough but it can always be exploited with smart players

Now it is not so hard to create your own program to play poker. Building AI that plays poker is harder than simple poker program. BUT if you want to build the best poker AI who makes decisions in 10 seconds you will need a lot of computing power. So until the quantum PC is in every house I do not think that online poker is threaten at all. 😀

As the well-known saying goes, "when gambling, casino always wins.Of course, superiority. Initiatives for short and long tables are only a matter of time. We just hope that the security measures of online poker will match the pace of technology development.

Yes, interesting topic . I think over time it becomes a problem ! And still hope that the poker rooms will handle security . Nobody wants to lose money !

Eventually it will be a problem, but I don't think it will kill it. Take chess for example, they have a super computer that's pretty difficult to beat. The difference is that in poker we have the 'luck' factor.

The fact that the artificial intelligence in many structures is present,it can be said alarming. Can be said about the bots, what they are in poker, the facts were read. The main thing that we play all the same with people. Thanks for the topic.

I don't see the analogy between Poker and Chess. Totally different games. In chess there are a very limited amount of moves. You only have a few pieces and a few places to move at any given time. In poker, those numbers are huge. It may work heads up, where it still struggles, but at a full ring, not a chance. Plain and simple, there are just too many variables when just looking at the cards. Then take into account the playing styles, we are a LONG way off finding a program that could beat even a 1/2 ring game.

Not no limit, too many quirks to the game for a computer to play perfect. Humans can adjust more than a computer will ever be able to

So how exactly this ai would be implemented to pokerstars eg, does it notify you for decisions or does it play itself
Pokerstars is closed source and the ai would need to get information from somewhere to make those calculations.
So far ive seen pros playing against ai itself(the code pretty much) where players output is put directly into the code.

this computet is heads up and is not standard pc... they can not solve 6 max game no limit the will need power plant to supply a computer for that kind of stuff 🙂

I'm sorry if this sounds argumentative but if you truly believe what you wrote here then you don't know the first thing about chess. To give you an example, there are 400 positions to analyze after both players made their first move. In the middle game there are up to 10^6 (1000000) positions a computer needs to analyze in order to calculate the correct move.

So no, writing a winning poker bot would not be impossible or require a lot of computing power. We already have HUD's and various other tools available for online poker that tracks player stats like aggression, how often they go to showdown, how often they call a re-raise and various other stats. We also have tools that can calculate the profitability of playing a certain hand in a certain position a certain way. Combine the two and you have a pretty strong poker bot.

No, the reason why you don't run into poker bots on major poker sites is simply because these sites have measures to detect bots. For example they track mouse movement and use it determine whether a human or program is playing.

Congratulations on approaching your topic, Brazilian friend. 🙂

The paths we follow are constantly evolving, perhaps because we are experiencing we do not feel the impact, but looking back we see the change

I do not think poker will die yet and maybe not soon, but we will have to try to cover the customers of these cyber scams, as many already use online help programs and others will look for ways to make money without playing or playing A machine for them
