I've been grinding online poker for a few months and I seemed to improve a bit, but I read a book on mtts from Jonathan Little and my play has significantly worsened.

I just console myself saying that I made the right choice but it hurts anyway. The specific leak is on coin-tossing. My standard tournament play is to avoid coin flipping pre-flop, especially when I'm deep stacked relative to others, and post flop except I got really thick value or CPFS, but Little recommended coin flipping with good equity or semi bluffing the same, and I now have way worse tournament runs.

There's variance in poker and particularly so in tournaments, so are most likely experiencing that after some early success.

I would guess Johnathan Little is advocating taking gambles in the right spots, the idea being you want to build a dominating stack that will take you deep into the tournament rather than clinging on to what you have and trying to just sneak into the money. Are you sure he is advocating calling on coin flips though or it he talking about shoving in coin flip situations? - there is a big difference as shoving affords you extra equity by way of villains folding.

I notice you using "CPFS" (Can Play For Stacks?), so I guess you've been watching Hungry Horse? Marc Goone/Gethen Jacobs are great coaches with a lot of good ideas, be careful though applying them to freeroll/micro and low buy in tournaments - most of the ideas don't transfer well as they are aimed at cash games deep (like 200bb) vs people who can find reasonable folds when pressured for "real" amounts of money.

Which book of Johnathon Little's are you referring to and what page/section? Again he has a lot of solid ideas but they may not transfer well to freeroll/micro buy ins, particularly bluffing/semi-bluffing, what buy-ins are you playing?

I think its important to review your hands. Sometimes you think you are applying everything and when you look, you might be missing spots.

If you are flipping preflop a lot, you should review your hands with an icm tool.
