I don't really think usernames matter, for the most part. It's usually an attempt to troll or bluff.

I have different name on different sites but I like my "Chief talking bull" name on ACR the best. I think it makes people think I'm lying and call me when they shouldn't.

Hi!

It's not stupid you ask. Let’s just say I don’t really care whose name it is. Because it is difficult for the Russians to decipher the meaning of the names and for the Japanese too :). However, it is good to pay attention to the names that if I catch someone bluffing several times, I will be happy to start playing with them and I will be happy to give them to them. Bluffing should not be forced many times. I have to wait and then the flop will hit me sometime.

names like 'justGTO' or whatever clearly indicate knowledge of the game - so if you don't know anything about your lineup, you can make assumptions that they are not a beginner.

I don't think it's too important for the game.

I wish I could change some of mine including this one. I've definitely outgrown the usernames I made 10 or so years ago lol.

The only reason I notice a username is when I play with them a lot and have notes on their tendencies, but I'm not assigning any significance or basing reads on the name they chose.

It would be nice to be able to change occasionally but that defeats the purpose of tracking results and putting reads into notes etc.

Good luck! :D

Hi! I have the same username everywhere. It is the same on this site and on poker rooms. Moreover, it matches my real name. I regret that I didn't come up with some abstract username. But it's too late to change anything now.

I don't think it matters that much. In fact think about how many usernames you remember. Personally not a lot!

All I care about is that my nickname is easy to remember and doesn't match up with others. Sometimes I think that some people in a hurry create a strange set of numbers or letters.

In my opinion, the usernames do not have much meaning, they are just the nickname we use at the tables, although some of them can be really funny.
I have a similar problem, I would like to change my username on the elders, but unfortunately it is not possible.

Hello. For me, it is fun to see how creative folks can be. To your point, usernames do not win poker games.

Sometimes usernames can throw off some players. Imagine playing against a MasterBluffer31. Haha

Nikolay Nakhaev said:
the player's name may indicate that he is not new to the world of poker and should be treated with caution
I read this somewhere on poker learning theory
Yes. It is a valid point to take note of, but not too important as you already know what to expect from him. So, he has a disadvantage towards you, as you won't loose bet or go easy on him. I'd suggest having a neutral name would help. Having a poker related username just exposes yourself a bit more. Any information is still good information. Cheers.

everything may be a clue , or not

a clever name , or a boastful one might be meaningful . in olden days a personalized avatar , say of kids or pets could suggest poker is just a whimsy . like an earlier CC member mentioned 'justGTO ' should be a stern warning . ( anything that suggests knowledge of software or modern theory like @monkerlearner , piofan , equity-exploiter , range#cruncher , flopzillafollower ,EV+expert or ICMstudent would be similar . and i hope i dont run into opponents like that in the microstakes ! ). your job is to sort through the partial , available info , and decide if it is useful .

I tried two or three names and each time the playrooms told me that they existed and i ended up finding one that went well everywhere... and after all, I like it.
But, i admit that some are very creative.

Hello, I think it's cool to have a name that I identify with and like at the tables, but I started playing online poker 10 years ago and my usernames are stuck with my 10 year old creativity..lol would like to change, I think 1 time a year would be valid .. would avoid some programs that use their history to benefit other players .. I don't like parallel programs like huds but they exist and are used a lot .. What would be the problem changing the username once a year would anyone know explain? they could even charge a fee of $ 1.2 or 5 for each player and I know it would sell !! GL for our olds usernames !![emoji41][emoji573]

I believe they can matter, especially if the name alludes to a particular way/strategy. It's either true or false, like a way ahead or way behind situation. This can go further and be even applied to photos/avatar and so forth.
