I was diagnosed with a mental health condition—epilepsy—over 30 years ago.
I play in online poker rooms, and it has really helped me with mental exercise.

Evolutionary Psychology
While talking to my neurologist, he spoke at length about the "evolutionary mind" in the context of evolutionary psychology—a field that studies how our brains and cognitive abilities developed as adaptations to solve survival problems, ranging from basic instincts to the processing of emotions and social behaviors.

Good to hear that mental exercise can be fun…I was taught to take a different route driving home from work to help…I was only 60 and a triple bypass patient…I play a lot of poker because I just don’t have the energy or motivation to go out…my wife and I do several online puzzles and we still get a newspaper delivered, so we have those puzzles as well…I think you’re doing the best thing by putting yourself in positions where you have to make different choices based on the circumstances and adapting where necessary.

Another alternative that really helps me is online chess; I registered with FIDE and participate in various matches.
I also recommend this option.
