Long poker sessions can be tiring. I try to take breaks and stay hydrated to keep my focus. Playing tired usually leads to mistakes. How do you stay focused?

Sessões longas de poker podem ser cansativas. Eu tento fazer pausas e me manter hidratado para manter o foco. Jogar cansado geralmente leva a erros. Como você se mantém concentrado?
I agree, breaks and hydration really make a big difference.
In addition, I try to play fewer tables when a session is long, to maintain the quality of the decisions. When I start to notice that the focus has dropped, I prefer to stop to continue playing automatically.

I think recognizing early signs of fatigue is the key here. For me it’s when I start calling more than thinking or rushing decisions. That’s usually my cue to step away, even if I planned to play longer. Pushing through rarely ends well. I decide “ok I’m playing 2 hours max” and break it into smaller blocks with short pauses. If I just play endlessly, my brain goes into autopilot and that’s where mistakes creep in.

If I'm having a good tournament run, I usually make some coffee and in the 5 minutes break, I try to lie down for a bit to relax.

Coffee, water, and if I do eat, something practical.

I usually play in the morning, from 10 am onwards. Beforehand, I shower and have a good breakfast in case the session lasts a long time. I do it this way because I feel refreshed, and during the session I always listen to music and use a gaming chair for comfort.

I treat focus like part of the strategy. I play shorter, high-quality sessions instead of grinding tired, and I take quick breaks to reset my mind. Staying hydrated, avoiding distractions, and having a simple routine like reviewing hands or setting goals before playing helps me stay sharp. If I feel my concentration dropping, I just stop playing tired usually costs more than it’s worth.

Totally agree — long sessions are where discipline really gets tested.

What helps me most is having structure before I even start:

  • I set a time limit or number of hands in advance, so I’m not playing endlessly.
  • I use the 50–10 rule (50 min play, 10 min break). Even if I feel good, I still take the break.
  • I keep my setup clean: water, light snack, no distractions.
During the session:

  • I do quick mental resets between hands (literally one deep breath and refocus).
  • If I notice autopilot or small mistakes creeping in, I cut tables or pause — that’s usually the first sign fatigue is hitting.
Big one for me: stop-loss for focus, not just money. If I’m tired, tilted, or not thinking clearly, I quit — even if I’m winning.

In the long run, playing fewer hours at high focus is way more profitable than grinding tired.

its needs a good condition. Good sleep, good food-no fast food--lot drink apple juice with mieralwater is the best--no alcohol during tournaments. And make a walk outside to get fresh air during the breaks

I think it's about not being 100% focused. I always like to have a movie or series playing while I play, and it usually works.

I try to stay focused by playing in shorter, high-quality sessions rather than grinding endlessly.
Taking regular breaks, staying hydrated, and avoiding heavy meals during sessions helps a lot.
Good sleep is also very important, especially for long MTT sessions.
When I notice my concentration dropping, I usually reduce tables or take a short pause.
In poker, mental freshness is a huge edge.
