Why do many poker sites/apps use a spade on their logo?

I found Black Chip Poker using a club instead, while other platforms avoid suit symbols entirely.

♠️ spade is the most instantly recognizable symbol for poker and playing cards worldwide... it also symbolizes strength , risk n high stakes, which fits poker sites/ App perfectly.

Good observation (y) this comes down to branding- legal- design strategy, not poker rules.

I was thinking more from the historical side of poker, but the branding angle makes a lot of sense too. The spade is probably just the most recognizable symbol.

I also came across the Diamond Poker Series logo, which looks pretty neat imo.InShot 20260523 151144458

one of the earliest forms of poker was five carrd stud. In this particular variation, a spade flush was considered the highest ranking flush, beating any other suit

Never paid attention to that. But interesting.
I guess if I were to create my own poker room, I would use a four-leaf clover and my CC nickname. It would be something like:
🍀PokerFox

I've seen all those logos and maybe more, but I have never paid attention to them closely.
It is weird in fact that Black Chip chose to use a club, the last ranked of the 4 suits!

Pokerstars compilations on youtube have the best commentators. Also, what’s funny is that when I originally made this thread, I didn’t even notice there was another spade logo right in front of me. The forum itself uses a spade in the top-left corner.

I suppose it's because it's the reference symbol for poker; of the four, it's the most well-known and the one that represents the card game.

Fun fact: in French the ♣ suit is Trèfle (clover), but in English we call them clubs from the older Italian bastoni (sticks/clubs) suit used before the French deck became standard.
Found out here: The Clubs suit is a lie! How were we tricked into calling a 3 leaf clover a club? Blame the Brit’s
So “🍀PokerFox” would actually be pretty lore-accurate 😁

Nice observation, never have I really thought about poker site logos. Also element alignments in different poker Apps is very similar, I guess perfect concept has been found and there is not much room for experiments. But well, industry standard works for me.

I like the Infinite Vegas logo best because it has all four suits in one place. The diamond is on top, and the infinity symbol makes it look like a club. By itself, it looks like a spade, but if you flip it upside down, it looks like a heart. Also, here are some other cool logos I found.

That is a good point. Spades around us for a long time. Sometimes they are not black at all.

It mostly comes down to instant recognition and tradition.

The spade is one of the four suits in a standard deck, but over time it’s become the one most strongly associated with poker specifically. Clubs, hearts, and diamonds are used too, but spades just “look right” for gambling branding—simple, sharp, and easy to stylize into a logo.

There’s also a bit of psychology behind it. A spade symbol is visually bold and slightly aggressive, which fits the competitive nature of poker. It’s easy to make it look premium, edgy, or “serious grinder” style depending on the design.
