Our efforts in sending a few UB/AP remissions claims through the FTP claims administrator's website and in taking grassroots actions such as sending the DoJ many tweets on this issue have helped us generate attention within DoJ on this matter. PPA Executive Director John Pappas and a PPA attorney had a conference call today with the DoJ Asset Forfeiture and Money Laundering Section (AFMLS) to discuss both the Cereus situation and FTP remission.

The conference call went well. PPA was able to present our case that SDNY should bring fraud charges in the matter of UB/AP and that remission should be set up for the victims of these sites. AFMLS led off by commending PPA and the poker community in being well organized and in continuing to take our case to the DoJ (I didn't add any hyperbole...that was the comment). They discussed ways we can push SDNY to charge Cereus with fraud, including a formal request by us sometime after the FTP remission bar date -- which PPA will do. This continues to be a long shot, of course, but at least we're working up the ladder.

We also have clarification on submissions of Cereus claims through the FTP remission site. They found the approach of using the KY settlement intriguing (Gzesh had that right for sure...it drove a review, where a submission without any tie-in would have been summarily rejected). We won't prevail there, though, so let's not submit any more via that method. We succeeded in sending the message that UB/AP victims were defrauded and deserve compensation.

The FTP discussion went well. AFLMS told us 80% of those with petition and control numbers accepted the balance provided and that roughly 35,000 claims have been filed. They reported that affiliate balances are still being determined and that these folks will have 30 days to review and submit their petitions (that part regarding the thirty days is on the claims site already).

The new news for FTP is that remission checks for uncontested balances are "optimistically" expected to go out before the end of the first quarter of 2014.
