It's a part of being a poker pro . I have made calls like that and I am sure a lot of people have made calls like that, and I'm sure people will be making calls like that in the future .

He should have gone all in pre flop, I never understood his call there. But Phil is Phil, maybe he thought he had a read on the guy. I just think in that particular situation it was difficult for the guy to put him all in with air.

It seems a poor choice or decision at first glance, but I don't know the opponent of he was the kind who bluffs a lot . Although bluffing against loose Hellmuth is not adviced . Probably he makes such hero calls all the time , thats how he got so many bracelets . He hunts bracelets not much good positions and cashing

I think the play was bad whichever way you look at it.

GTO would fold on the turn to a shove every time.

Old school play you just shove pre.

New school solver shoves 70 - 90% of the time, and never justs calls the min raise.

Think Phil out thought himself on this one.

From what we can see, it looks like a terrible hero call, but we don't know how the hand played out on each street. Maybe his opponent had a tendency to bet a lot with almost anything, and this time he set a good trap for him with a hand that wasn't really strong enough to risk all his chips.
