In particular, GGPoker has combined football and poker in a new format of Pick & Go tournaments. Before the start of the event, the player chooses the team to play for. The size of the buy-in discount depends on this: the less chances of a team winning according to the bookmaker's quotes, the greater the discount the participant will receive.

💥 However, the main feature is different. If your chosen team loses a match, you automatically drop out of the poker tournament regardless of the size of your stack. Even if you are among the chippers at that moment. On the other hand, a draw leaves all participants in the game.

Sounds like a very dumb format, might appeal to sports betters/football fans?

Not exactly new, they've done this during the euro cup 2 years ago as well.
I don't think it was particularely sucessfull . Only a handful of Cup tournaments exceeded the guaranteed prizepool... Which is rather atypical for GG..having tournaments with overlay

I noticed that there, but it didn't entice me enough to try it!

Yeah I heard about it years ago for sure, so not a new idea.

It does seem like a pretty bad idea frankly. If I have been playing a tournament for hours, and maybe done really well, I dont want to be removed, just because my team lost. So if I want to engage in sportsbetting, I would much rather do it separately from poker. However I do vaquely remember from previous discussions about the topic, that maybe there is some promotional element in these tournaments? If that is the case, that might be the reason to play them then. As is of course an overlay, at least if its significant.

The only appeal I see is the potential satisfaction of having registered for the underdog and they win.
Then you're in with very much fewer players with a good shot at nice prize money.
But that is a big gamble.
And I think this is also the only intention of GG for offering such games. gambling :)

Very good, just be alert for opportunities during the game.
