I logged onto ACR for the first time in a while a few days ago only to notice that there is no longer a chat option. Just emojis and throwables like at Stars but with no chat. I know there is a lot of problems with people being abusive to other players on all the sites, but I enjoyed chat at the tables and I miss being able to talk to other players. SIGH. Anyone else???

Have not been on there the last few weeks either but I wont miss the chat to be honest. While I was always happy to chat with my fellow CC'ers other than that I could care less for the chat function.

Yes I miss the chat. It didn't work half the time before and I thought the update may fix it. Instead they removed it and added the horrible animations and throwables. The official word seems to blame toxic players but everyone could simply mute any player or remove chat all together. This reason just doesn't ring true. It's a sad day honestly. I've brought members to cardschat through acr chat. I recieved my first staking offer in chat. I've met a handful of people in chat that I keep contact with on other platforms. Chat was a way to identify bots as well and this relaxing of security is a bit concerning.

I totally agree. Now the only place to chat is on other sites or in Twitch or Discord. Which actually encourages collusion. I know there were some bad apples there, but it was great to get in a game and see a fellow CCer and be able to have convo with them. BTW, the throwables are terrible. LOL

Wait, I've been waiting my whole life for a reason to say this to someone with "coolhand" in their name----wait for it---

What we have here, is lack of communication.

I'm more irritated that they didn't include a way to disable the throwables more than taking away the chat. I really couldn't care if they took the chat away.

I usually like the site but I started reducing my playing time there.

It's pretty sad the ways in which online poker has changed from the days when I first began playing online. (2007).
Back in 2007, 2008 I actually met quite a few players online & this while only playing mostly in micro & low buyins. I played in MANY leagues (soooo many of them back then). On weekends I could easily find myself in upwards of 20 games where you'd be competing against players you'd play against on a regular basis (the 'cash-added' prizepools helped obviously).
I was surprised when I went to play in a CC game on Stars a year or so ago and wasn't able to chat in observer chat. That felt strange for me. It was normal to go chat with your online friends after you'd been KO'd, cheer them on... rail them for awhile, etc. Without chat, you lose out on all of this stuff and for me this stuff is what made the game fun (... and the cash-added prizepools helped too... obviously).

In the regular MTT's online, you'd see MANY people railing games each night. Even in something like FTP's MidnightMadness (a $10 buyin, fast-structured tournament that went off at 00:00 EST, but paid out over $1,000 to 1st place), you would see 100's of observers chatting. And in the bigger games like FTOPS, $1k Monday, Super Tuesday, etc. the chat would just go crazy at times. (ie. DoyleRIP, vamoooooos, .. send me $5? etc etc, lol).

I found out about other leagues, games, etc. and invited others to ones I was playing in... all via the observer & game chat.
I even met some Fulltilt Pros & invited some of them in a Private Birthday tournament I held once on FTP. It also got me to a Live tournament where my partner was invited to play vs. Gavin Smith HeadsUP. We received free airfare, limo rides, Hotel (penthouse suite) for 3days and a buyin to a Live SNG with other pros. A dinner at some steakhouse (owned by another poker pro), a poker chipset (lol), tons of other stuff and this all came about from the chat on the online tables and most of it from the observer chat.
fwiw, Gavin was a super nice guy (RIP) & extremely generous!

I miss those days of online poker. Now about the only chat I'm in is on Twitch.. where the streamer pretends to give a sh1t about ya in hopes you keep on subscribing..... sigh. And while playing, I wouldn't have time to chat... now it's just playing like a robot.

It would be great to see poker come back more along the lines of how it used to be played when it was in the BOOM years online. You know... when it was like playing a game of poker. No Spins. No Hyper Extreme 100 chip stacks. All-in or Fold. 10bb stacks. Players playing with some program helping them on another computer (RTA), getting outted but then back playing in the limelight in the following week.

Chat wasn't that good to begin with, but chat did give the opportunity to add another dimension to the game, especially final tables and heads up play.

I'm not a big fan of chats when I play, I prefer to pay attention to the moves and opponents, sometimes when I'm playing and I meet a member of the CC, I even reply, but I don't extend the conversation, it's just that most of the time I'm in more than 2 or 3 tournaments

I agree with you there Charlie. ACR was probably the best freerolls that we had. Plus, we got to play with people from all over. Not that just playing the USA players is a bad thing (LOL). I do also miss the $3.30 Sunday game.

I agree. In their rush to grab money, sites have designed todays tournaments to be mostly shallow stacked and fast blinds. You don't know many real players, most everyone has a HUD or RTA or something. There are teams that collude with each other, bots, poor RNGs and the list goes on. SIGH.

But, I still love poker, even though I do not spend nearly as much time with it as I have in the past. I think a lot of it is for the above stated reasons. But, I know that I will always play at least some.

I would miss the chat if there were any more CC freerolls. However, I did not notice the chat is gone because I have not played on ACR since the last CC freeroll. I'm not that keen on ACR, but again, I have alternatives and I know not many do, due to pointless restrictions. I totally despise throwables and animations and anything else that's distracting.

I really don't understand why these companies don't just focus on decent quality of gameplay amd by that I mean something like what GGPoker did. They focused on the quality of gameplay. It's nice looking, it's smooth. Why all the extra rubbish? Chat I understand, but everything else, absolutely pointless, while gameplay looks like the 80's on a bad day.

Yes was good to be able to chat in the old ACR CardsChat freerolls mostly but in many other games people just curse and curse lol!
I wonder was that why ACR removed the chat feature too many complaints by players being cursed at for example?:dontknow:
