"WPT' now charges you money for throwables

WPT recently had an update that now includes an integrated HUD, which is cool, and they finally added emoticons and throwables. Yesterday I made a withdrawal, so I had around $1.30 left. I joined the daily freeroll and noticed the throwables. Just for fun, I started using them.

At some point it stopped sending them, and I got confused. I read the small print underneath and, to my surprise, there's a 10-cent charge for every throwable you send. Yeah, it's partly my fault for not reading the fine print, but come on, what poker site charges for throwables lol? A $1.30 mistake that might save you money now that you know.

It’s the first time I’ve ever seen a site charge for something like that, and honestly, it feels pretty scammy. I’ve seen a lot of people using those throwables over the past couple of days, and I’m pretty sure none of them realized they were being charged for it.

It’s that tiny line underneath them that no one probably takes the time to read.

Thats seriously a complete joke by wpt global.

Cant implement something like this without informing people and/or make it crystal clear in the software that they are going to charge for it imo.

As if someone wouid use that function knowing its going to cost real money.

The real luck is that you paid the money upfront — actually, you were throwing money at the players.
I've never heard of anything like that before, and with how greedy poker sites have become, they might even start charging just to log in.

Aww thats a nice gesture by WPT Global, gifting you 3x1$ tickets. They might revert the change back to completly free if enough people complain and ask for compensation, like you did mate.

I never liked microtransations in videogames, hope the other pokersites dont implement this greedy/scammy crap in theire software. In case you dont know what a microtransaction is, especially the older folks here: in-game purchases that unlock specific features or gives the user special abilities, characters or content. The purchases are virtual. The cost of these transactions can range from $0.99 to $99 , possibly even more.

Yeah, let’s see if I make more money than I lost, haha. Like I said, it’s more about the principle than anything. Yes, it’s ridiculous to charge for that, but the scammy part is that at first there’s nothing written, and when you’ve used your free throwable, that small line telling about the 10-cent charge suddenly appears at the bottom sneakily. I didn’t try it on the phone I’d be curious to hear other people’s experiences with it and what it shows for them about that.

On Thursday (after waiting over 5 minutes for WPT to apply an update), I noticed they had included emojis, which disappointed me. However I was knocked out early and didn’t have a chance to check them out so I don’t know if the fine print was there.
Today I checked out a few tourneys, freerolls and micro buyins, and didn’t even see the emoji symbols on the tables I looked at.

Maybe they must be testing this new feature in some countries, because i haven't seen this deduction yet. I don't play cash games, but I remember seeing something similar on this same platform a year ago, when they charged 0.01 cent to open a card after you decided to fold your hand.

The emoticons they provide are free, but if you click on someone, a new menu opens with the HUD and throwables, which are free for a few uses. As long as you don’t use throwables beyond the free limit, there will be no charge.

Very original. This is the first time I've heard of such a thing. I've never seen anywhere else that you have to pay for such nonsense. I think some of our colleagues might go bankrupt
