Honestly, I have no idea why you found that fight boring. I thought it was a great fight. Consider it was a 5 round heavyweight fight. At 263 ponds (Ngannou at his weight in) you can't fight at the intensity of a bantamweight during 25 minutes, especially after that taxing first round.

And I enjoyed all four previous fights of the main card.

They both gased out after the first round. LOL Nothing much happened besides the first round.

Well, Ngannou was, not Stipe.

Ngannou being the big heavyweight he is and with his style of fighting, is no surprise he was tired after that first round. It's even expected, actually. It's like going to watch a movie. If you know what kind of movie you are about to watch, then you kind of know what to expect. Same thing happens with different weight classes in MMA .

Yesterday I watched Bellator 192, which was aired the same night as UFC 220.

Rory MacDonald performance was impressive considering his horrible leg injury, and on top of that he also injured his right hand. What a fighter!

Rampage looked in really bad shape, looks like he's not training that much.

I think it's super-tough to say how any of those matches would go, given how little recent form we have on any of the participants.

Nate hasn't fought anyone other than Conor in over two years. We don't even know if he wants to fight anyone other than Conor. Though he did look good in both those fights.

GSP's only fight in four years, as noted above, was against a well-past-his-prime Bisping.

And by the time Conor comes back he won't have fought an MMA bout in about 18 months either. He's the youngest of the three and pretty clearly still in his prime though, from a physical standpoint.

Does GSP have a skill set that could trouble Conor? Sure. Would he also be the bigger fighter? Yes. Is GSP's cardio still the same as it used to be, and is his chin still the same, now that he's getting older though? Who knows.

And while Nate is definitely not Nick, I imagine a Nate-GSP fight stands to look pretty similar to the Nick-GSP fight.

I like how you call Bisping way past his prime when he loses to GSP but still in his prime when he defeated Anderson. The two fights were only 1.5 years apart. I also like how you try to discredit GSP win of the MW belt saying he had hand picked his opponent. He moved up at the right time when the MW champion was one of the weaker champions of recent memory. You can't fault the man for that. He was still the smaller guy moving up. It wasn't a forgone conclusion that GSP was going to beat Bisping. Its not like he was giving someone that only had 10 days notice and hasn't been training.

All three fighters are / were past their primes in their respected fights with each other.

Conor has one chance vs GSP and that is to get a KO in the first Round or two. Likely just the first round because once GSP takes him down he won't be getting back up until the fight is finished or the bell rings for another round. And if the take down happens early in the first. It is highly likely Conor gas tank will be next to empty coming into the second due to the bigger much better wrestler wearing and tearing on him.

1 year 9 months, but who's counting 😛

Also in looking that up, LOL at whoever edited Bisping's wikipedia page, his victory method over Rockhold reads "KO (hook from hell)" and the one over Hendo reads "Decision (dominant ass beating)". Gold.

Anywho 18 months is a long, long time in the fight game, especially for old fighters. Declines happen rapidly - one fight someone is in the tail end of their prime, still good, the next one they've fallen off a cliff and they're done. That pretty clearly happened to Bisping.

I didn't think it was 1 year 9 months. That is closer two the two year mark and of course a drastic difference can happen within that time frame but ...

Bisping was the same fighter in the Anderson fight as he was in the GSP fight. He was past it in both.

I am going to go look at that Wiki .... there some gems in some of the wiki edited pages.

Apparently, if you're fighting a brazilian in Brazil, you better knock him out or submit him, because judges tend to be way too in favor of the locals.

One thing that caught my attention was the terrible job Mario Yamasaki did in the Shevchenco fight. He is IMO the worst referee there is in the UFC, he's taken a lot of bad decisions over the years, but last night's was probably his worst. It seemed like he wanted Valentina to murder Cachoeira. I spent most of the fight wishing he'd stopped it. It was truly horrible, reminded me of a scene in "Fight Club" where Edward Norton's character beats Jared Leto's.

Once again, I find myself hoping this'll be his final fight as a referee in the UFC.

Unfortunately Yamasaki will most likely continue to referee in the UFC. He has been consistently horrible wheather letting fight go on too long, early stoppages, missing taps or not being in position to see illegal strikes. The worst part is the athletic commissions don’t seem to care and continue to allow him to be a referee.

If the UFC really wanted him gone they could find a way. There's a reason you don't see Steve Mazzaggati working UFC fights any more...

im gutted to see Frankie not get this title shot again, seems the MMA gods don’t want it to happen.

That being said I’m really excited to see him and Ortega go at it, that’s gonna be an interesting fight!

GSP will once again be the best fighter in what ever division he decides to fight in

The UFC can’t do anything about referees or judges, that’s the responsibility of the athletic commissions where the fights take place. The athletic commissions choose the refs and judges for each event and the UFC has no input or influence on the decisions they make.
Steve Mazzaggati is even more horrifying as a referee but he eventually managed to get the attention of the NSAC after countless years of causing fighters losses and endangering fighters. The worst I can remember is Jon Finch vs Josh Burkman. He was finally moved to smaller shows before not working altogether. It shouldn’t have to get to that level before something is done.
I think if the UFC could do anything it would be done more effectively and refs wouldn’t be given chance after chance. Refs like Mazzaggati and Yamasaki would have been out of work years and years ago.

I'm just finding out on July 7 the Heavyweight title will be on the line: Miocic vs Cormier! 😱

I'm excited for sure. Glad this fight is happening: Champion vs Champion. And they both fought and won recently.

It will most likely be a great fight.

And they added Cyborg as the main event. She's fighting Yana Kunitskaya (10 - 3 - 0), whom I've never seen fight, but it's always fun to watch Cyborg fight.

BTW, Stefan Struve vs Andrei Arlovski should be great as well.

I mean... technically you're correct, but let's be real: saying the UFC doesn't have any influence over relatively minor commission decisions like which refs do or don't get to work UFC events is like saying the UFC doesn't have any influence over, say, Brock Lesnar's drug testing exemptions, or that Floyd Mayweather didn't have influence over pretty much every decision regarding his fights that went before a commission. Officially they don't, but they're also the commission's meal ticket and the commission knows it 😛

IIRC in the case of Mazzaggati, Dana's public comment was that the UFC itself technically couldn't do anything about it, but individual fighters could petition the commission not to have him ref their fights. And pretty soon afterwards, no more Mazzaggati.

The NSAC would put Mazzaggati in the biggest fights after Dana would call him out for being the worst. It wasn’t until fighters were saying they didn’t want him to ref their fight and the NSAC had no choice. They gave him fights in smaller shows after that and continued to be horrible. The same thing happened fighters said they didn’t want him and then he was completely gone. It was never the commissions decision.
To compare the UFC to the super corrupt world of boxing is laughable. I’m sure if Dana bribed the NSAC they would listen to him like they listen to boxing promoters.

Tyson Pedro had a nice Kimura finish but his post fight interview was the best I’ve seen in awhile. It rivals that of Brock Lesnar, can’t remember the fight but it was around the time when Bud Light first started sponsored the UFC.

I stopped caring about this card as soon as I found out Whittaker wouldn't be fighting, only just catching up on it now.

LOL Romero missing out on the belt in a fight he won because he missed weight might just be the most peak-Romero thing ever.

Rockhold and the fans are the biggest loser out of this. Can't really match him up with Whittaker coming off a loss, and we're stuck with Romero having won. The same guy that Whittaker already beat on one leg...

the card was not that great but some nice fights on the main card jake matthews fight was great, and blaydes just kept taking hunt down 10 times in 3 rounds

looks like UFC is coming back from the drop on the quality of its fights.. some good fights coming up next, tony vs khabib, ortega vs edgar, DC vs Stipe, i mean some good fights incoming, hopefully we see DJ vs TJ too sometime this year..

I'm still confused by that fight. I mean, I'm a big fan of both guys styles, in theory it could be a great fight and a lot of fun. But what division is it supposed to happen in?

DJ is too small to fight at 135, especially against the elite guys. And TJ isn't exactly a small 135er - just look at his weigh in photos. I really dunno where they think he's going to cut another 10 pounds from.

TJ wants to fight for the Flyweight title. He's sure he can do it. I'm sure he can adjust his "special vitamin" routine and make it, it's just a matter of having enough time. He seems to think he can do it in a full camp's notice of eight weeks or so.
