WVHillbilly said:Disagree. I don't think Aldo is the reason for the sellouts and the PPV buys. Conner is driving that. His next opponent is almost irrelevant to the size of the payday.
WVHillbilly said:How do you sell Conner - Aldo 2?
"This time it probably lasts more than 13 seconds!"
underdog140 said:The same way they sold the first one. Conor will do it.
If anyone deserves a rematch its a champion who has been undefeated for 10 years. It was a fast KO. It is easy to spin it as a "lucky" punch and this time it will be a war ect.
Although very impressive ... a fast KO like that isn't the same as getting your ass kicked for X amount of rounds and being finished or losing a lopsided decision. No-one would want to see a rematch if that was the case.
I would rather watch Edgar get his shot but Aldo without a doubt deserves a rematch.

Agree 100% with both of these.lol_donkaments said:D. Maia and his BJJ. Wow. Give him a bigger fight already.
What was Weidman thinking? Lol. What a weird kick attempt. And what about Herb Dean? Chris almost got murdered, Stop the fight!
OzExorcist said:Maybe he deserves it, maybe he doesn't, but they call it the fight business for a reason. Aldo as champion just isn't that great for business, and McGregor no longer needs Aldo as his foil now that he's got the belt.
The UFC has proven time and again that title shots and rematches aren't necessarily about who's "deserving". Did Renan Barao "deserve" an immediate rematch after the lopsided beating Dillashaw put on him? LOL nope - but the rematch just happened to be the most sellable fight they could make, so they made it and when they eventually fought again, Barao proved he didn't deserve it.
Were there contenders who "deserved" a shot at Aldo before Conor? Damn right there were. But it would have been bad business to leave Conor on the shelf.
lol_donkaments said:Yep. I would say that Conor beating Aldo is like JDS beating Cain. It happened once, but not sure about twice. Gonna get a lot of hate for this, but I still think Aldo is a way better fighter than Conor like Cain is better than JDS. Still think that Aldo beats Conor 9/10 times.
At the end of the day, it is good for UFC that Conor is the champ. They've lost their big names: GSP, Jones, Anderson and Ronda. They need another star and Conor is perfect for the job.
Talking about the other fights, I scored a tie for Jacare x Romero. It wasn't as impressive as I imagined. Not sure if one of them deserves a title match.

WVHillbilly said:Honestly I think who is most deserving of a shot at Rockhold is way more interesting. Not sure if Romero did enough against Jacare to get a chance before a Weidman rematch.
OzExorcist said:Yeah that's an interesting question - I had Weidman winning round one, Rockhold winning round two, and Weidman winning round three... right up until the insane wheel kick.
You could certainly make a different that Rockhold-Weidman II had the potential to play out differently.
I don't think either Romero or Jacare covered themselves in glory, and both of stalled between rounds.
I'd be happy to see Rockhold-Romero, with Weidman-Jacare for the next shot, or Rockhold-Weidman II... but I guess the question then would be what you do with Romero and Jacare in the meantime? Those top four at middleweight are all very interesting, but the talent and intrigue drops off pretty quickly after that.
I mean hell, Tim Kennedy is still the #6 ranked guy in the division. He's 36, hasn't fought in over a year and hasn't showed any interest in getting back in the cage either AFAIK. Robert Whittaker isn't ready to be in the title discussion yet, Bisping prob never will be, Vitor is surely onto the "entertaining showcases" portion of his career. I guess my point is having anyone in the top four fight anyone else in the division wouldn't be much more than a squash match.

underdog140 said:Luke wanted it stood up. If you go back and watch. He was just holding him with the choke trying to stop the action. You can even see him give a nod to the ref just before it is stood up.
