Im actually pretty impressed with Bader, i kinda expected to get man handled by davis, it was a pretty close fight and in some eyes davis might have won it but me personally, i think that bader took rd1 and 3 and was throwing and landing better than davis...

Im kinda disappointed in Erokhin, expected lot more from him but i guess i should have expected that due to a lack of experience in top competition...

Kudos to Rumble thou, huge win, it would be interesting to see how he will look against jones, im kinda optimistic...

I was happy to see both Rumble & Bader get wins. Rumble looked awesome & like a few have said already, I see a Rumble vs. Bones fight in the near future. It could be called the "we will rumble your bones" fight.

I think the Hendo fight was stopped too early. He is a UFC vet & should be allowed a little leeway when it comes to knockdown stoppages like that.

Henderson's fight stopped too early but maybe a good thing for Dan? I think he needs to retire... err.. I think he needed to retire awhile back. Maybe he could have a fight setup vs. Ken Shamrock (isn't Shamrock going to be fighting that bare-fisted brawler guy from UK?).

I'm not so sure about that, for a couple of reasons.

First of all, McGregor is apparently a brown belt in BJJ himself. Brown < black, obviously. And since it was a KO victory (over Poirier) that got him awarded the belt, it's valid to ask how legit his skills actually are. Truth is we've never really seen them. I don't doubt he spends the majority of his time training his striking, but by the same token we've got no basis to expect a ground fight between him and Aldo to look like Royce Gracie v Art Jimmerson either.

Second yes, Aldo is a BJJ black belt, but does he have any inclination to actually use those skills? I can't think of many instances where he has. He's always struck me more as an Anderson Silva / Junior Dos Santos type fighter: they both have BJJ black belts as well, but for whatever reason they've always favoured their striking skills instead, even in situations (Silva's desperation armbar of Chael Sonnen aside) where it would have seemed advantageous for them to go to the ground.

So sure, there's the potential for there to be a mismatch if the fight goes to the ground, but I don't necessarily think that's likely to happen.

I sure didn't pick it by first round KO (though that was always gonna be a possibility), but in terms of biggest upsets ever I don't think it even comes close. Dillashaw over Barao last year, for example?

I get the impression that everyone other than Hendo himself thinks he should have stopped fighting by now. Hell, there was footage in the fight leadup of Luke Rockhold going out to help Hendo train, and even though Rockhold never actually said as much, I thought I could see "Dan, I can't believe you're still putting yourself through this, please retire already" written all over his face.

I suspect the ref (either consciously or subconsciously) probably had something similar in mind - even if it was a marginally early call, everyone knew where it was going. And how could he not? You're officiating a match with a guy who's clearly already taken a few too many shots, and every extra punch you allow is almost certainly taking years off the guy's life. I don't envy that ref his job for a second...

What's sad is that I think a lot of the post-fight commentary will be proven right: Hendo will probably tell himself that he didn't really lose this fight, it was stopped too early, and that'll be his justification to keep on fighting. Sad...

I think the Gastelum vs. Woodley fight will be the most exciting & hopefully end in KO/TKO. Followed by the Lauzon vs. Iaquinta fight.

I didn't say it was a good strategy - trying to get McGregor on the ground and threatening him with submissions might very well be a smart thing to do.

Or it might not: you're asking us to take a leap of faith with regard to Aldo's thus-far undemonstrated BJJ skills, but you're not willing to consider the same for McGregor. He might not be as bad on the ground as you think. But what I'm mostly saying is don't be surprised if all we see is a kickboxing contest.

Truth is the UFC is littered with examples of guys who've chosen to ignore areas where they supposedly have a huge advantage. Roy Nelson should have the grappling advantage in most of his fights, for example, but does he ever do anything other than just plod around looking for that big right hand?

Going in, Junior dos Santos v Mark Hunt was theoretically a pretty close fight on the feet, but JDS was supposed to have a huge advantage on the ground thanks to his BJJ black belt. But what did he do? Kept it standing the whole fight.

Hell, look at Aldo v Mark Hominick. Hominick was an elite striker, but five of his eight losses to that point had come by submission. Like JDS v Hunt it seemed like a perfect opportunity to dust off his BJJ black belt given what a mismatch the ground game would likely be.

Instead, what happened? Sure he took Hominick down a few times, but then he just sat in his guard for most of the time throwing ground and pound. You can argue that it worked a treat and he didn't need to do much more than that. And admittedly it's been a while since I last watched that fight, so maybe I'm forgetting something. But I don't recall Aldo ever making much of an attempt to pass guard, let alone threaten with submissions. If he wasn inclined to, shouldn't a BJJ black belt have had a relatively easy time doing that against an inferior grappler?

yes being from jon jones home town I do root for him. I would never doubt him no matter his outta the octagon issues. He is moving out to his training camp to get away from his issues to totally focus on his training which will be very dangerous for anyone he fights from here on. He will be the best fighter we have seen!

Gastelum misses weight by about 10 pounds, has apparently been ill all week and had to go to hospital yesterday - fight is still on, but at catchweight.

I'm only making a couple of small bets tomorrow. Meisha Tate to beat Sara McMann at $2.64, I don't think Tate will let McMann get away with the lay-and-pray strategy, take that away and I think that match is much closer to a coinflip.

Also taking Silva-Diaz to go over 3.5 rounds at $2.30, trusting Diaz won't be stupid enough to walk right into a Silva counter and/or that his chin will hold up if he does. He only has two career losses inside the distance, and one of those was a doctor's stoppage.

It was a interesting night of fights, expected more from woodley and kelvin but its understandable i guess considering all the factors... Happy to see thales won a fight, its a huge win and huge finish considering how surprisingly easy he handled guy like boech when they went on the ground...

Feels a little harsh on Gastelum given it sounds like he had the flu or something this time, and given how many more chances Lineker has been given in the past. But it might be the best thing for him, we'll see...
