New NFL overtime rules

It's about time the NFL implemented the corresponding rules from NCAA Football. They've been talkin about it for years. Glad to see it in action.

It's a good rule for the playoffs. Now the losing team can't blame the coin flip as the reason why they lost.

My basic understanding of the new rule is that if the team winning the coin toss scores a touchdown, the game is over. However, if the team winning the coin toss just kicks a field goal then the other team is given a chance to tie or win the game.

"Each team must possess or have the opportunity to possess the ball
unless the team that has the ball first scores a touchdown on its
initial possession." :icon_scra

yay no more coin flop then. No more excuses for teams

I haven't read the article but I recall from summer that they changed the rules. Didn't seem too confusing then, just took the luck factor (or some of it at least) out of the OT. I think a better rule overall would be first to 5 points, so it's basically either 2 FGs or 1 TD. Makes it easier to understand the rules.

And now we wait to see this rule implemented in the regular season too...
