Right. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say today is the day the World Cup gets going. I'm hopeful for a good game between Honduras and Chile. Really looking forward to seeing Alexis Sanchez for the first time in a full game. Then later I'm sure Spain are gonna light this thing up. They just don't do playing badly. With South Africa playing today as well, I'm confident (well hoping) that today is the day

Around 11 or 12/1

Really quite dissapointed. Especially seen as I'm taking a lot of stick off mates after I've been bigging Spain up for months. Stand by my belief that they'll go on to win it though. Hoping for a South African win tonight to lift my mood :)

Spain played a beautiful game for the first half, but just couldnt quite finish. Thought they'd dominate the second half and score a few, but congrats to the Swiss for scoring and winning the game.
That'll shake up the World Cup, for sure!
Spain to score loads in their next game!

It wasn't pretty, but Switzerland was tactically spot on, very well done!

Chile and Honduras won't be able to pull this off though, so Spain should still go through. Chile vs. Spain should be a great game!

Is it just me or is anyone else dissapointed by the way most favourites played so far ?

I won't say anything about Germany because I would be stating the obvious -

they're the only team so far playing as well as I expected.

South Africa got whipped, thrashed, thumped, destroyed by Uruguay 3-0. 3-nil.3-nothing. 3 Zip. Broken in half.

Thank God Im a poker player because I know all about bad beats and I can recover quicker than most.

The hearts in the country have sunk below the knees. SA will be the first country in the history of the world cup to host it and not go past the first round.

Doesnt matter that the attendance at this world cup has exceeded any previous world cup: surprising because the stadiums dont look full-but thats because they were built to hold more people than any other in the world including Wembley!!!!

A good night sleep and then we can focus on the same old teams (the best in the world) showing us how its done!

I still think Argentina are looking the best, so I predict Argentina and Brazil are the temas to beat.

Spain will bounce back and if they can beat an impressive Chille team they will make the semis.

there is a lot of wrong in this sentence.

wembley - 90k
soccer city - 88k
green point - 64k
other stadiums - less than that

the number of empty seats is just ridiculous and while i can't be bothered to dig up stats to back this up there's no chance that total attendances have been higher than at this stage in any past world cup.

even the usa managed to fill similar-sized stadiums in '94 and nobody there cares about football unless it's played with an egg.

Since it's not even halfway through yet it's hard to tell how many will eventually attend.

These are the numbers from the 2006 WC in Germany:

Attendants: 3.359.439 (Ø: 52.491 per game)

SA isnt out yet though.

Just have to win France(much easier to do then a few years ago ;)) and count on Urugay win Mexico and that FRA-MEX ends as a draw our they could go through on goal difrence if it isnt a draw and they beat France.

Might be a long shot, but still a shot. Just have to crush France ;).

My grandfather was born in Barcelona, and raised in Real Madrid. The best times I can remember in my life were watching the World Cup with him. We never missed a game, and there was nothing funner than watching him scream at the T.V. "Shooooooot, Shoooooot the ball.. Clear it out Clear it out" Ever since he passed I root for no one in the World Cup except Spain. :)

Does this mean I have to support France. I know thats where I get my name from but obv I can't connect with anything there on a personal level.
