Massive news tonight, Southampton have been kicked out of the Championship playoffs for spying on Middlesbrough and other teams training sessions.

They have also been given a 4 point deduction next season

Southampton are appealing, but personally I think the EFL would look like incompetant fools if they went back on this decision, further, I reckon they have added points as well so they can reduce or remove the points sanction on appeal!!

For context, I am a Boro fan so of course I'm over the moon woth this decision, but I do objectively think its the right one and the only one the EFL could make, or it makes a mockery of their rules!

What does anyone else think??

There has to be an appeals process, doesn't mean it will go anywhere though, you would think EFL have damning evidence before making a ruling like this.

Seems the appeal will be heard tomorrow, I think its a forgone conclusion, as you say they must have solid evidence, and apparently its been admitted by Southampton, and also relates at the very least to games vs Oxford and Ipswich too.

This suggests to me that they were doing it every game from a certain time period, and also blows away the argument that many ex footballers have said that they weren't gaining ay useful info from it.....they must have been or why keep doing it over and over

These results should be amended as 3:0 victories for opponents. Oxford should appeal their relegation to demote Southampton.

Yeah, they may just do that.....although they clearly had some evidence of some sort so it makes you wonder why they didn't bring it to anyones attention earlier

I jumped the gun. Oxford's maximum remedy within rules is a replay, but they won relevant fixture 2:1. Ipswich promoted despite draw, and Southampton's main punishment is maximally severe.

The only question is whether Southampton can argue disproportionality.

Yeah its been a while, I believe its over a year now since the procedure was complete, but now it is waiting on a deciosions to be made. I assume each charge needs a seperate decsion.

The fact they are hopefully getting it done today, just shows how much better the EFL is than the Premier league.

But as with most trials, when the defendant admits all charges, which city have not done, whereas Forest and I think Chelsea did do, and in this case Southampton, its much easier to get to a rapid decision

Primarily a Ravens and Commanders fan. I went to one premier game many years ago at White Hart Lane. I remember the crowd singing this song throughout the game with Southhampton. So I usually say I'm a Spurs fan, and they had some of the early US players to play in Premier. John Harkes was on the original MLS team for my hometown, DC United, I believe he played at Liverpool.

Southampton kicked out of the playoffs… and now Boro are back in the conversation 👀
That’s the Championship for you one week you’re dreaming of Wembley, the next you’re starting over.
Honestly, the league never disappoints when it comes to drama.

I ended up going to Wembley, as I was already in London! It was a great day, but of course not as great as it could have been.

Gutted we didn't go up
