When is a Sport not a Sport?

Someone who invented the word "sports" may answer this question) Our language is imperfect, so everyone will be interpreted and classified according to their own)
 
Poker, chess, darts and billiards are games it doesn’t involve injuries
 
For me, sport is associated with physical activity, the possibility of physical injury. And what you listed are just games. I would add golf.
 
sport is the most important thing for a person
Billiards is also a sport even a smart sport
 
All sports that are now recognized by the world are sports. Not a sport is when all the participants are drunk in the spray.😀
 
**** off not cricket get a brain. There's no physicality in fielding? Batting? Fast bowling is literally one of the most physically demanding skills in sports and u think a baseball pitcher that stands on the spot is more worthy of the title "sportsman"? Americans lul.

well, the main thing is that there would be a sports component.

I think that chess, checkers, poker - this is not a sport, here or intelligence must work or good luck. Sport is movement and heavy physical activity.
 
Horse Racing, motor racing, rowing, yachting, are all done sitting down🙂
All participants in these sports are bloody fit.
 
Some even believe that due to the brutality and mortality that boxibg and mma is not a sport.It is a long a debatable dilema
 
I feel like anything that can be turned into a skill based competition should qualify as a sport.
 
All great points, but I believe a Sport should involve three elements: Exertion(Brawn or Brain), Skill(Accuracy or Strength) and Competition(Opponent/s).
Once these criterion are met then experience would be the factor that determines rating, not luck, at least not generally.

And BTW you try facing a West Indian or Indian bowler sending a ball down a pitch at 90-100 mph and you having fractions of a second to dispatch it or get the hell out of the way(Bouncer) and then evaluate if it a sport or not(That takes Immense Skill Buddy)!

He won't agree. You gave an example of sports that are considered sports by right. Sports poker can also be considered a sport.
 
If we understand by the word sport as a competition, the activity of people (athletes) organized according to certain rules, consisting in comparing their physical and (or) intellectual abilities, as well as preparation for this activity and interpersonal relations arising in its process, then any such process will be sports, even chess.
