9 handed vanilla MTT. 40bb deep, well into the tournament, but still someway off the money.

Folded to us in UTG+2 with :js4::jc4: we open to 2.2bb. Folds round to BB, who calls.

Flop is :10h4::9h4::4c4:

BB checks. What's your play here and why?

Standard bet for value and a bit of protection. Lots of worse hands can pay now, and we might need to slow down on later streets.

I think, I go for a large bet here, since its a pretty wet board, and we unblock both top pair and the flushdraw. 60-80% pot rather than the usual small 30-40% "range bet", that is good for dry boards.

This is what I thought, thought, too. We want to get ma value from smaller pairs and charge the draws if they want to come along.

We bet 4 into 5.9bb pot and BB calls. Pot is now 13.9bb, effective stack is 33.8bb.

Turn is :kh4:

BB leads for 7bb,

What's your play and why?

Several draws got there, so not the card - or action - we wanted to see. Its a bluff catching situation, so opponent reads matter, but against the vast majority of opponents I fold here. If they have a hand like 87 and saw a good bluffing opportunity, then well played by them.

Interesting spot here- The BB has all the flush draws -has sets- has over cards- normally we bet large to clean out over cards but in this spot the overs connect with this board so we are not going to get as many folds as the bet normally would. If the V over folds these flops as normal practice--most players do-- then the larger bet may get folds from hands that we want to call 63cc etc. Under those circumstances we would bet smaller 40% pot on the flop. Then bet very large on a clean turn 1.5 pot getting max value from draws and knocking out KQ 1 heart hands etc.

The above strategy works very well vs face up players who would lead turn with the flush in a bigger pot but check to trap in a smaller pot. Vs this V type the turn bluff frequency is low even vs the smaller not tiny flop bet.
