8 players post ante of 50, SB posts 200, Hero posts BB 400

Pre Flop: (pot: 1,000) Hero has :ad4: :4d4:
4 folds, CO calls 400, fold, SB raises to 1,680, Hero ?

Do you guys call here? What are your actions against " Unconventional " raise? (not only 4bb but also 7,6,5,9,12bb) ? What is your calling range in this spots?

Depends how wide the SB is raising over the limp, and what the CO does behind you. If the SB does it with lots of hands, A4s is a fine call at this size. If it's only pairs from 88 up, big aces and KQs, it's close even here.
The bigger he makes it, the fewer hands I'd call with. At 12bb A4s comes up just short even against the wide version, so I'd lean fold.

If SB had straight out opened to 4,2BB, I would call and see a flop in position. However with CO still in the hand, you are not closing the action, and if CO comes along as well, you are monkey in the middle in a very bloated pot. And there is also a small risk, that CO might go for the limp-reraise, which would be pretty bad, because then we put in another 3,2BB without even seeing a flop.

Another way to look at it is to pretend, that CO had min-raised, and SB had 3-bet to 7BB. Would we then have a range for cold calling in the BB? Probably not. So if you continue here, it should probably be as a 3-bet bluff to around 12-13BB. That will get CO out of the way most of the time, and if SB jam, you can fold. I would not call here, because I think, this is the worst of your options.

I agree with Amir. This is about Villain tendencies.

SB bet is large enough that if we call CO MIGHT fold giving us position (although in this particular hand CO is open limping late with a big stack, he's probably a fish looking to get lucky and will call pretty much anything). If SB is loose and aggressive, we can call this pretty easily and if we get a good draw on the flop we can continue and possibly win a big one because the implied odds are pretty decent when both Villains have a wider range. If we get a crappy flop we can check-fold.

On the other hand, if SB is tight, dominating hands are more of his range so we can just fold right here.

I’ve seen people playing in live poker tournaments and was wondering—how much of a bankroll do you need to play in events like that?

Why unconventional? What size do you think SB should use OOP? Pot is 2680? Or is it 1k plus 400? After raise CO has to call 1280 to win 3960 after they call or +400--4360- they only need hands with 33% equity to call the smaller pot. That is a lot of hands calling in position vs SB range. + SB cannot bust CO and has 54bb behind- a solid implied odds situation for CO.

If CO raised SB raise should be 4x minimum or 8bb it is an error vs a large stack to not use a size closer to this even when they limp as I demonstrated the math above.

As to your action. If we thought CO flats most often your call is 1280 to win 5240 total pot after you call-- 4-1 you only need 25% equity to call. This makes a call very close for you vs 2 medium ranges --not nitty but not loose either--.
As well because you can be dominating flush hands you also have the implied odds of getting stacks post flop and your EQR increases post flop with the flush and straight potential of your hand. You can call flop bets with back doors to nut hands--
If you were to call it would be with the flush wheel Ax most often not other low Ax hands due to not being able to over flush for stacks.

This is a great spot to use Equilab to get a very good idea of your hand equity vs 2 ranges.

In this case pot is 1k. I don't necessary speak about this scenario, I meant how do you act against a 6x, 7x BB open? I try to understand why player open like that. I see players open something random like 8.3bb, 9.7bb like that and I don't see how they get called with worst hands. Are they doing this to protect their pocket 3, 4,5?

4bb is a little large but not crazy large. He's out of position and there is 1 limper. Each limper fattens the pot a little bit so a standard 2x or 2.5x opening often just gives decent pot odds to all of the marginal hands still to act and we end up in a fugly multiway pot where we have to hit to continue, so every time that someone limps, our opening size needs to be a tad larger. 4x is not out of line here. If there are 4 or 5 limpers it is okay to open 6x 7x 8x.

As for mega openings, just call them tighter. If a particular player at the table has a high frequency of unnecessarily outrageous openings we know that he is doing this fairly wide, so just fold a lot and call him tighter. This is laggy/maniac type of play, tighten up and call when strong. We can win some big-ass pots if we are patient.

SB implying a very strong range and trying to nudge out at least one player.

I would usually call here to see the flop. CO is probably a fish that limps and likes to see flops.

As I stated in my post 8 or 9 bb from Sb vs massive CO stack is not extreme because it is in relation to that stack. If in your player pools players are looking only at the bet size and not how it relates to stacks, then you can constantly steal pots while in the SB with bigger bets. If you are constantly attacking spots like this vs a known player pool then they will have to call or you will destroy them with steals.

You only need to steal 4 times in spots like this to pay for the one time it does not work. If you think this bet never gets paid in your player pool, then it will win much more than 4 times.
