With an UTG open and a 3-bet in front of you, 88 is a fold, when the action get to you the first time. In general we dont have much if any range at all for cold calling 3-bets out of position. So if its not good enough to put in the cold 4-bet, which 88 is clearly not, then its just a fold.

In tournaments setmining with lower or midelling pais is a risky play.
After a 4-bet what is the normal Range that does this play?
Range is JJ+, AK and that´s it.
Why do you stick around with your 88?
Its a clear fold Preflop.

I can only agree, with a 4-bet preflop in a multiway pot you have not to call with 88 anymore. You are too far behind with that. It's as clear as broth.

The Range is QQ+, AK and rarely AQs
So Googleheimer has right, a clear fold.

There may be one exception but not 200 BB deep, when you are below 15 BB 88 may be a direct shove not a call.

Fold pre. You are out of position in BB and not closing the action. (ie. thinking ahead, what will we do if UTG 4Bets?)
